This site is a gem. Nestling at the side of the road between Harlech and Porthmadog it's the perfect site for touring the Snowdonia countryside. The pitches are well spaced out and you have free rein to choose where you want to pitch unless you've pre-booked one of the "electric hook up" ones. We went at peak season, stayed two weeks and never once felt crowded. The site is safe for children of all ages and it is very family friendly.

A word about the toilet facilities. I can't praise them enough. They really were spotless and I didn't once have to queue for a shower which are operated by a token (25p) and last a glorious 10 minutes with no interruptions. The launderette and washing up room was also spotless and never crowded, with a daily weather bulletin printed out from the internet displayed inside.

The relaxed atmosphere extends across the site and there seemed to be plenty of room for both tourers and campers alike. The site operates a small shop for the basic necessities of life like milk and bread but there are a number of shops around the area to stock up on any extras, such as in Harlech which is about ten minutes drive.

All the tourist attractions of Snowdon, Betwys-coed, Blaenau and Harlech are all within easy driving distance and there are some gems of beaches close to Harlech which sport clean golden sands and space, and seem to have been missed by the bucket and spade crowd.

The road to Portmerion ("The Village" as in the Prisoner) is accessed by a privately owned toll bridge for which you have to pay the princely sum of 30 pence. However if you keep your ticket and wave it at the toll manager as you return, you are covered for the return journey too.

Slightly further on, the road to Porthmadog has yet another toll, this time 5pence. Amazingly this also covers you for the return journey.

The grounds themselves are also spotless, being mowed frequently so that games of boules etc are easy to play. I'd have to give this site a 9 out of 10. If you want a relaxed atmosphere with cleanliness and a friendly welcome then pay it a visit. I can assure you that you won't be disappointed.

Julia's praise of this site is accurate and well-deserved.

We pitched a 3-man tent, which cost £15.00 per night, but here you get what you pay for. The ground was perfectly level and well drained, the pegs went in easily and held throughout.

The site was full for the second two nights, but we only had to queue for a shower once (around 10 minutes) and that was at 0830 so no surprise really. There were staff in virtually constant attendance - the facilities could hardly have been cleaner. There is one "family" cubicle in each toilet area with a shower, basin and toilet.

Showers now cost 30p for ten minutes, and the toll bridge is 40p but you still get the return journey for nothing.

The only problem is not the site's fault - there's nowhere to get a meal within walking distance. The only pub in Talsarnau (The Ship Aground) doesn't do food at all.
