I have rented static caravans on a number of sites, all of which have had extensive facilities including swimming pools, shops, restaurants etc which cost less than our caravan did on this site. When we booked I did say I thought the price was very high but needs must.
We arrived late on a Friday afternoon & was meet by the site manager, who seemed very pleasant. She showed us to the caravan but seemed very nervous about us using the caravan, saying that they don't normally rent that particular one out.
We were very disappointed to find that there was no television or even a radio, which made it rather boring for our two young children as there are very little facilities apart from a playground in the restaurant next to the site.
Having occupied the children I set to work cooking the food we had brought with us. Well this was impossible, there was no microwave, lighter to light the gas, cutlery, 1 very small saucepan, no frying pan, no baking trays. What we did have was 4 sets of very dirty crockery, but no glasses, no tin opener the list just goes on.
Of course I thought the first port of call was to pay the manager a visit but her home on site has no bell & the gate was locked, thank god her phone number was on the receipt!!.
She seemed rather put out that she had to bring us some cutlery but that was all we got.
The caravan was obviously not a winter insulated one as it was freezing so we had to light the heater, well we didn't realise that we risked our lives doing that. All the air vents had been sealed over & the carbon monoxide alarm batteries were flat. It was only after my husband started saying he wasn't feeling well did we realise the danger we had been in.
Our bedding & clothes were damp in the morning which is not acceptable when you are paying £80 a night!
My overall impression was she had rented out a caravan without the owners permission, hence her stripping the place bare & the vents being sealed. I also wonder why we had to pay the full amount in cash on arrival, no chance of getting it back or stopping a cheque!!
Sorry would not recommend this site at all, thank god the local restaurant did good food!!
