Aberafon is one of the most beautiful sites I have ever visited. The site sits isolated in the imposing shadow of Gyrn Goch, adjacent to a pebbly beach on the North coast of the Lleyn peninsula. The 100 or so spacious, numbered pitches offer a choice of exposed beach-side setting in fields of 20 or so tents, or more secluded locations amongst sheltered tree-lined meadows bordered by the babbling brook of Afon Hen. There are also a fair number of touring caravans on site and a holiday cottage for hire.

Entrance to the site is gained via a tight gateway down a steep and very narrow lane. The presence of large touring units on site defies any apparent inaccessibility. The site has its own slipway, which is used as a launching point for camper's boats, jet skis etc. There is a small play area, games room with pool table, shop, launderette and a shower block. Loos and dish-washing facilities are scattered around the site.

The sunsets at Aberafon can be breathtaking and the fading light of dusk reveals a shore-line dotted with camp-fires. The site's residents descend to the beach in small groups and sit around the fires to ward off the chill of night. It's all very quiet and dignified - this is very much a family site with a strict no noise policy, group bookings are not accepted. It's a great place for a quiet weekend away and I will definitely return.
