This is what you could call an "official wild campsite". Close to Loch Maree and Beinn Eighe...and totally free! For tents only. Clean toilet block with outside dish washing area with drinking water.. but no hot water. For short stays, no more than 2 nights.

The Ben Eighe campsite is completely free (there's not even an honesty box). It's a very narrow patch of ground, and reserved for tents only. The ground can be quite wet, and caravans or motor homes would rapidly damage it (I myself left a few ruts, unfortunately). There may be no hot water, but on the other hand, the toilet facilities are really very clean. There's a sink for your dishes outside the block. They ask you not to light fires, and dogs are not permitted. There's a house at the end of the path, and therefore you are asked to respect the owners. It's a superb place for walkers, who are but a few steps from the Ben Eighe National Nature Reserve, where there are many miles of paths waiting to be trod.
The site is right at the end of Loch Maree, and the sign that points to it is not at the edge of the road, but part-way down the path, so you can easily pass it without noticing. Coming from Torridon, there's an enormous sign showing the Nature Reserve, and the campsite is half a mile or so further on, on the right (coming from Gairloch, it's practically invisible).
The site is free, so please respect it, so that others may continue to benefit from it.
