Swallow Holme is a smallish site, catering quite specifically for the rambling sort. There are two main areas, one of which has some static vans, and an area for people staying a few days, and another catering for overnight backpackers etc.

The site is sandwiched between a busy road and a railway, and we were concerned when we arrived about the noise. Yes, it was noisy, but we were out most of the day, and we didn't notice it much at night. However, if you're a light sleeper, you might want to take earplugs.

Facilities are only toilets and showers. We found that the 20p showers didn't last long enough, and would run cold before you'd finished, so take at least two coins!

We happened upon Swallow Holme caravan/campsite by chance, after touring for a few hours in search of a decent site with decent facilities. It was getting late, and North Lees campsite was full, this site was the nearest. The site was actually quite peaceful despite the railway track and road nearby, though we were out for most of the late afternoon and evening.

There are two pubs within easy walking distance. The Derwent hotel serves generous quality food, and a pint of "Landlord" was very nice.

The shower block at the campsite was ok, though the showers were not really that hot, also there were no plug sockets in the females - don't bother bringing your hairdryer, unless you sneak into the men's toilet block, where I was informed by my boyfriend that they had plenty of sockets!

If you are camping, watch out - you will be surrounded by ducks as soon as you attempt to cook anything.
