An excellent site for real campers. The owner allows you to have a camp fire and is more than happy for you to collect branches and twigs from around the site. Chantilly chateau is only a few minutes away and is an excellent day out. There is a small beach and park area in the village and the local people from the village are very friendly and helpful. There is all you need in the village including 2 supermarkets.

We were in France 14 July 2005, and we had a wonderful time at CAMPIX.
Love from Norway!

(Originally submitted 2001. Updated 2005)
Campix is situated in an old quarry. The ground is therefore rather stony, and very hilly in places. There are many mature trees and bushes, and the pitches are slotted in to clearings here and there. This can give quite a lot of privacy (if you're lucky to find a pitch on its own), but it can also be difficult to find a pitch which matches your needs. The site does not allocate a pitch for you, but lets you select your own. This gives you the freedom to choose where you want to be, but also means there is a race for the best pitches. We had trouble finding one which was of adequate size, sufficiently level, and with electricity, and we eventually settled for one without electricity, even though we had paid the full fee. We might have got help if we'd asked, but we were exhausted after a long trip, and couldn't be bothered.
People with large caravans or motor homes should beware, as some of the site roads are steep, narrow and twisty, with a very rough and loose surface.
It is a short walk to the village of St Leu d'Esserent, but I can't comment further, as we didn't use the village.
You can take the train from St Leu to Paris (changing at Creil) but the trains are a bit rare out of peak hours, so we chose to drive to Creil (only a few minutes) and take the direct train from there.
Parc Asterix is a 15-minute drive, and in our opinion is much better value for money than Disneyland.

We stayed in July 2009 while travelling down through France. We found this to be an excellent site. A really different setting in the old quarry. Xavier the owner is extremely helpful and very pleasant indeed. Toilets are excellent. Always clean. Pool is obviously a recent edition and is really good. Clean and well maintained. Not only is there a van in the morning from the local bakery, there is a van in the evening which sells burgers, sausages and chips among ther things. One minor issue. The fact that there is only one toilet block so you can be a bit of a distance away. We actually stayed in the site on the way back home and would recommend it to anyone. One good addition would be a bar or small restaurant.

We stayed here for 4 nights as we were taking the children to Parc Asterix, this is an ideal site for this attraction, set in an old quarry the children aged 13, 11 and 9 thought it was brilliant for hunting down broken trees to make a log camp fire, there is a beautiful clean swimming pool and a smaller one for little ones, toilets and showers are separate male and female. Beautiful and clean. Washing facilities for laundry and dishes. A daily van comes to visit for you fresh baguettes or pastries. And the owner Xavier was so welcoming. 10/10 high recommended.
