What could be a nice, pleasant site, but spoiled by the unfriendly, clinical staff. My family and I arrived on a Sunday morning after a long journey. It was a quiet time of the year. We had booked a mobile home. We enquired at the reception desk to see if by any chance the accommodation was ready, given that it was a quiet time. We were told that we could only have access from 4pm. When we arrived back at 4pm, we were taken to the mobile home which obviously hadn't been used for a couple of weeks. Absolutely no reason why they couldn't have let us in slightly earlier! The water boiler had a fault which we reported. Nothing was done about it until 2 days later. As a stop gap, we were given a key to an outside loo and shower. No offer of a refund.
On arrival, you arrange for funds to be available for a fairly hefty deposit (£250). On departure, you make an appointment for someone to inspect your mobile home before the give the deposit back. At the appointed time, "Madam" arrived - no smiles or friendliness. Walked into the mobile home and checked every room, then proceeded to count every single plate, bowl, glass, cup, saucer, mug, knife and fork as well as everything else. Everything was immaculate and the mobile home had been cleaned from top to bottom, leaving nothing whatsoever for the staff to do. "Madam" then simply signed a chit, saying that it was "ok". We then had to present that at reception to get our deposit back. She then simply shrugged her shoulders and cleared off. No smiles or "please come back again sometime" etc.
It seems that despite paying fairly hefty rental prices, that they expect that the unit is left immaculate too!
On the positive side, the pool complex is nice, but that's about it. The bar staff and reception staff were not friendly and didn't do anything to make people feel welcome. The site is in a nice area.
One word of warning - some friends of ours who had a caravan had to leave to catch an early ferry on the Saturday (the main changeover day). They lock the site barriers late at night and don't unlock them until the next morning. Despite having a security chappie on duty, they were VERY reluctant to arrange for the gate to be opened to let our friends out slightly earlier than normal. In the end, they agreed, but only after our friends told them that if they wouldn't, they would park their caravan and car in the driveway overnight. If you are booked on an early ferry crossing, please bear this in mind.

Hello,
Our family has been going to Armor Héol for 19 years now! Lots of change since the beginning: pools, bar, heated pool etc.
Bot also lots of disappointments, especially in the most recent years! Prices rising, friendliness falling to non-existent levels! Landscaping that had been put in place and appreciated by everyone has been replaced by lovely weeds and a maintenance of the site roads that leaves a lot to be desired.
But what we miss most is the entertainment: previously there were activities morning, afternoon and evening for big and small, but now there are just occasional activities from time to time, with little variation. Where are the activities led by competent people, which the campers loved? Where is the welcome and the kindness that was so appreciated prior to these last 5 years? We miss (and we're not alone) the old owners who created this campsite! Many old regulars have now left, and for good reason. It's very disappointing.

Hello,
We just left this campsite this morning, after spending a week there. The site is faithful to the image on their website, with a lovely pool, indoor and out, well maintained, and clean toilet blocks.
Food available (pizzas, vacuum-packed stuff, salads), various daytime activities, two people looking after children for activities morning and afternoon, gym, basketball, boules, table tennis, a sports coach who offered activities such as football, aquagym, stretching.
Now to some negative points:
Staff rather lacking in warmth, bar, food, reception, no ‘hello' from the manager, and no question of asking if all was well, neither on arrival, nor on leaving. The whole team seemed to hold back from their clients.
Evening activities were quite limited.
The big problems were the youngsters who would throw themselves from the slides into the pools, so you could find yourself in a dangerous position in the pool close to the slides. They sent these youngsters out in the morning, but they came back in the afternoon, so they closed the slides, so everyone was penalised for the few.
My advice: keep an eye on your children, even if they're of an independent age.
People without wristbands were coming into the pool all day. (The pool is free, but who are these people? Where is the security?)
In the evening, entertainment was sometimes cancelled.
Friday evening, first time we had seen a watchman, never seen sign of his Maglite the rest of the week. There was often a lot of noise at night, until 1am, lots of coming and going, and some young individuals shouting well into the night, I was up at 5am because of youngsters shouting at the end of the driveway.
Advice: take your earplugs!
The access gate to the pool did not work (which is worrying with a child under 6) and it wasn't repaired during the week. The gate was wedged with a bin beside it.
The depths of the pool were not clearly marked – you need your own tape measure to work out what the truth is.
The only people I congratulate are Séverine, Sophie and Laurent, who display some dedication, and the service personnel who work in the background.

Arrival: the staff in reception were polite and friendly.
Pitch: Very good, shady, with lots of space.
Toilets: Clean, large, segregated male/female.
Playgrounds: Lots for the children, excellent for amusing the kids.
Pool: Very good indoor pool, and also outside, with slides, but the sun-beds were not very comfortable, and some were broken or missing bits. Not enough with adjustable backrest.
Location: Very good, close to the town, the beach, and to other places such as la Turballe, Guérande, etc.
Staff: The seasonal staff were very friendly, polite and kind to the children.
Entertainment: Very good for a 3-star site, and it finished around 11 or 11:30, so we could get to sleep.
What I missed was a shop with at least a minimum of essentials.

On me répond : " Revenez vers midi la responsable sera là".

Pleasant campsite, clean, good location, with night-time security.
Pitches good, good size, well marked.
Toilet facilities very clean.
Activities: pool, entertainment, games, no problem there.
Price: expensive, but there are lots of facilities.
Ambiance: Reception needs attention, the staff were very cold, no kindness (we had booked for the weekend, Sunday at noon, we were asked to leave to make room for new arrivals!!!) and no smiles or apologies.
Terms: beware of errors – check everything carefully
We have known this campsite for 20 years, and we miss the old owners.

Disappointed.
I am from Piriac, but I've lived in Paris for 6 years.
The parents of a childhood friend were the previous owners of this site, great people, ready to do anything for their clients, who they treated as their guests.
So it was natural that I recommended this campsite to my colleagues and friends for my wedding on 25 June 2010.
Result: no welcome, no entertainers, no night watch, terrible atmosphere, bedlinen was dirty, and to crown it all, one of my friends received an inflammatory letter, completely unfounded, saying that they had left the accommodation in a deplorable state. Believe me, I know my friend well, they're a maniac for cleaning!
I am terribly disappointed, Armor Héol has lost its heart.

Reception was very odd, no smiles, casual, no “thank you”, nor “was everything ok” on departure. It's better to have nothing to do with the reception staff! For tent campers, it's worth knowing that there is no facility for freezer blocks – you'll have to pay 50cents for an ice bottle at the marché-plus – and if you want to have a barbecue, you'll have to bring your own (so I was told by the owner, when I asked if there was somewhere I could grill some food).
There's no restaurant (at least, at the end of June, the bar/restaurant was closed all the week).
The pitch was fine, large and shady.
Toilet blocks: they have put everything into these, no problem there. A key for each pitch to get access to the facilities (washbasin, WC, shower, mirror) very clean.
Pool: Very good, especially when there are just a few in the water, but the slides left there mark!
Activities: nothing while we were there.
Location: very good, close to the centre and the beach, not far from La Turballe, Guérande, La Baule, Pouligen, Croizic, where the markets are very good to visit.

Armor Héol is a brilliant campsite with enormous potential.
It has a good location, close to the town and accessible via a cycle route where you can go by bike or on foot in safety, even with little ones in tow.
The pool complex is good, as are the play facilities for the children, and the toilet blocks are clean.
But we were disappointed, not by the campsite itself, but by those who manage it (and yes ladies and gentlemen, you will have to learn to accept criticism).
For years, Armor Héol was a campsite where you could have a good time, we loved to go every year between May and September.
In 2008 and 2009, great disappointment: the new managers were not at all welcoming. They say hello because it’s their job, but smiles have to be coaxed out of them.
The entertainment is terrible, thanks to the young activity leaders, who have no respect for the campers.
The noise at night time is awful, due to the campsite only being supervised from 4 July, it’s better not to go before that date, else you’ll be woken at 4am by people making a racket, and threatening you if you dare to say anything.
Various complaints made at reception do no good, the owners don’t even apologise, and don’t ask the guilty parties to apologise.
Prices have doubled, while the services have tumbled.
The campsite was full to bursting every year with the previous owners. In 2009, 30% of the mobile homes were let, and don’t say it’s the economic crisis, as the competitor campsite, le Parc du Guibel, is full, with lower prices even though it’s a 4-star.
I won’t speak of the price paid for pets, even though they don’t make use of the entertainment, this is just abuse of the funds of their holidaymakers.
In summary, I do not recommend this site.
After 16 years of loyalty to the old owners, we have now left for his competitor, where we are pleasantly welcomed, and where the services are up to scratch.

I've just come back (summer 2008).
YES, the location, close to the port of Piriac, is very pleasant;
YES, the pitches are vast and surrounded by trees;
YES the site is very well maintained;
YES, the toilet blocks are very clean and frequently cleaned;
BUT
It has become very expensive (about €45 per night for a couple) and the services are not always up to standard for that price, in particular, peace at night (a drunk cretin can quite happily talk at 3am like it was midday, without provoking the slightest reaction from the wardens).
Another thing really unpleasant in a site at this price: the hoops you have to go through in order to receive a surprise visit from a friend; worthy of the soviet administration; and what's more, if he stays for more than an hour (checked precisely thanks to the wristband) it will cost you the princely sum of €6 per person (with access for your friends to all of the facilities, but that was irrelevant - he'd only come to say hello!). So, if you invite friends to dinner, the price of entry really overwhelms the price of the food!
I'm sorry, but at these prices, I want to be able to invite who I like for a quick hello or for a meal, without having to explain myself, or to demand that my guests wear a wristband, just like I can elsewhere! We're on holiday aren't we?
So, next year, I'll be going elsewhere. At this price, you can find places more welcoming and respectful of your peace.
Have a good holiday, if you haven't already been!

We have just returned from this lovely site, we went with another family and there were 9 of us altogether, 4 adults and 4 teenagers. Everybody had a good time. Having the individual sanitary facilities was a real bonus and really worth the money. The site was spotless and the tennis free even in July/August. The site has no shop but you can get bread and croissants from the take away in the morning, the site is not large so everything is close together but not on top of each other, the pitches are of a good size, all with hedges round them. You can walk into Piriac from the sightwhich takes about 15 mins, it is a lovely fishing port with nice restaurants, especially the one near the car park opposite the fishmongers, sells pizzas, mussles and meat dishes, lovely. There is also a lovely ice cream/ waffle shop which is worth a visit, we went there several times-yum. The supermarket is in Piriac just round the corner from the market.
We went to la Baule, Batz-sur-mer and St Nazaire to see the port and submarine base during the war.
You can walk to the beach from the site, it has great rock pools for climbing on, but for better beaches for swimming La Baule or Batz is better, they also do sailing and windsurfing.
They operate a card payment system where you put money on a card they give you then use that in the bar and take away.
The sight is quiet by 11.30 or midnight. We had a great time and would go back, even with the euro against us Brits.

Having been here many times with my family over the years, I too have changed campsite after the arrival of the new owners.
Terrible atmosphere, ridiculous and ill-executed entertainment.
4 years ago (with the old owners) the atmosphere was fantastic, the site was well maintained, the entertainment made you curl up with laughter, and above all made you eager to return year after year.
The new owners should have bought an accountant's office, where they would not have had to deal with the public, rather than a campsite like this one. What a waste.
I strongly recommend against this campsite, where the quality/price ratio does not meet my expectations!

Having had a good holiday at this campsite last year, we will gladly be returning this year. We have spoken about this campsite to our friends, and two extra families will be joining us in August 2008. The evening entertainment is good, and it doesn't finish too late. The facilities are very pleasant, especially the outdoor pool.

Hello everybody. I find this camping very pleasant, and it quickly makes us fit through the activities it provides. I'm in my twenties, and I make use of the activities from early morning: fitness exercises, swimming pool. The activity leaders are very nice and kind. I have a little photo of the leaders from a few years ago, of which I have very good memories. I recommend this campsite to everyone for your comfort, your fitness, and your joie de vivre with all the other campers. Kisses to all. One small piece of advice before finishing - don't stop the football - it's a good start to the day. Thank you!

Frankly, I know of no better campsite in the world than this one. It's the cream of the cream, for campsites of course. This is the sixth year (2004) that I will go there, and in five years I have never been disappointed by the campsite, the activities, and the entertainers there. Change nothing - it's too good! For a whole year, I'm waiting for only one thing - camping! All my friends are there, the atmosphere is just brill (and the water too!) and everyone is friendly, thanks to everyone!
