My family and I have been going to this campsite for the last 15 years, about 2-3 times a year. It is situated on a sheltered part of the headland between Llanbedwrog and Abersoch with very picturesque views of Cardigan Bay and the Snowdownian national park in the distance. The site itself is a family site with a separate play area for children that is fenced, and also there is a dog exercise area. Although dogs are allowed on the site they must be kept on a lead at all times because of the sheep in the neighbouring fields. The facilities are free hot showers; the hairdryers were 20p last year to my knowledge the price is the same this year. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer although there is a charge for using them. I'm not sure how much it is: "I don’t do washing I’m supposed to be on holiday" but all amenities are well looked after and are spotless at all times. The site is very quiet but does get busy bank holidays and also July-August. The site is close to two very nice beaches, if you turn left out of site a 2 min drive will get you to Llanbedwrog beach which is nice and quiet and has a nice cafe/bistro, also public toilets and car park. If you turn right out of the campsite a 3-4 minute drive will get you to the Abersoch/warren beach which is a longer beach but has no toilets and no cafe and can also get quite windy. There is an ice cream van that does travel up and down the beach most of the day in the high season. Although there is a car park, I would recommend that you walk to the beach in the high season because the road is single track with passing places and when it gets busy people tend to park in the passing places making it difficult for people driving to and from the beach. It only takes 10 mins to walk to either beach anyway. The only thing I would say against the site is the road up to the site is a bit narrow but this is more of a hindrance than a problem but I don’t want to appear biased. There is no shop on the site but the local milk man comes on site first thing about 8:30-9:00am, and he sells bread, milk, eggs & newspapers amongst other things and there’s a shop, post office, petrol staion/minimart, and chemist in the village (Llanbedwrog). In the surrounding area there are various walks and attractions, there are good selection of leaflets in the camp reception, Pwllheli market on Weds is not to be missed. I hope this review is of use to you. Overall this is a great site, can't wait for Easter.....

I understand that this site no longer accepts touring caravans and tents, which is a shame, as the review makes it sound pretty good.

Bol Mynydd is a small quiet site reached via a very narrow lane near the top of a large hill (mynydd = mountain). The site is one field, surrounded by gorse hedges, split into four areas by a large ‘cross’ of bushes in the middle. There are fifteen or so tourers present on hard standing that look like long-term residents, plus an indeterminate number of mostly level tent pitches. The tent pitches around the ‘cross’ all have hook-ups; I would guess about twelve in all. Amenities include three spotless WCs and three very hot free showers for each sex, coin-operated hair drier, dishwashing facilities, but not much else. This doesn’t sound very impressive but the site is an absolute delight, very quiet (as are most places in April) with fantastic views to the mountains of the Lleyn peninsula and the bay at Llanbedrog. There are no facilities for children whatsoever and it’s not the sort of place to improvise a football pitch. Our five and seven-year-old girls were happy making daisy chains but older kids might get bored. It’s a good 15-minute walk down the lane into Llanbedrog but worth the hike for the pub at the bottom, which sell good, reasonably priced food and beer and has a large children’s play area. The site owners had no qualms about booking in our huge tent but I would phone to check if visiting in July or August. Note that the owners of Bol Mynydd also own Refail, which is just across the main road and accepts caravans only. Confusingly, the telphone, fax, and email are the same for both sites, so take care you turn up at the right one - follow the online map link on the left of this page. The gate is operated by a code, so you must phone before arriving in order to be told the number.
