A very nice clean site with excellent facilities which is unfortunately frequented by lots of travellers, along with their dogs which seem to bark non-stop, and hordes of screaming kids. My visit was totally ruined, as the site resembled a busy car park.

Stayed at this park for a weekend. Lovely site, shower block well maintained, close to shops but good distance out of town for peace and quiet, speed bumps on road into park are the only downside as they are very high, will definitely go back to this park again though, as me and my family enjoyed our stay.

Excellent facilities, friendly helpful staff. Development in the town has brought several superstores and more places in the town to eat and drink.
It is hard to believe that you are in a town as this is an idyllic site.
We stayed when the facilities were not so good but loved the location and have stuck with it... things just keep getting better and better, I am glad we stuck with it.
I am loath to say too many good things, as I wouldn't want it to become busy or expensive!

We visited the site in 2004. Scrupulously clean and well run. Warden on site in emergencies. Lovely walks around the hills and the lake. Information centre with café: reasonable prices and not just junk food - salads, not casseroles, jacket potatoes and desserts.
Shower blocks: hot water and clean - need a code to get in them.
Close to town with swimming pool and supermarket. We'd go again.

This could be an excellent cheap site but poor site management let it down. Own facilities are advisable.
It has had a facelift recently but we have not camped there since the improvements.
Site run by the local council.
General Small site. Most pitches electric. Internal and access roads excellent. No enforcement of normal campsite rules - dogs running free - children playing in showers.
Beautiful views. This area was once ravaged by mining but you would be very hard pressed to notice.
One toilet block. 2 cubicles. No hand drying. 2 showers which worked OK. There is no adequate ventilation and surfaces run with water - especially after children have been running the hot water for most of the night. Someone had removed all the hooks and was halfway to removing a door catch. This plus a chair full of water forced me to abandon one attempt to shower but early next day was ok. No private washing cubicles.
One sink for dishwashing one for laundry. Wooden slat drainer. Outside with very token shelter. Someone had stolen the plugs.
No on site facilities but there is a residential visitor centre a hundred yards away. The shop sells tourist stuff not camper stuff. Tesco is about a mile away.
Absolutely loads of walks, but I didn't get time to explore as I have relatives nearby and we went out with them. Bob and Slyv have been campers for years and often take a look at this site so if you see a tallish man with an aluminium walking stick just mooching about say hello for me.
