Big site. Open all year with plenty of hard stands.

Caravan Club Site. Non-members welcome.

The site is split into two main areas only one of which was open when we visited in March. The all-year part of the site consists of curving roads with fairly high screening so there is no impression of a sea of vans from the pitches which are for the most part hard stands. The other area looked more like an open field site on grass.

Single large heated toilet block with 5 cubicles. 4 good showers and 8 private washing cubicles. 2 washing up sinks under cover.

On site facilities: Normal Caravan Club Reception.

There are miles of walks on good sound paths around the lakes in the country park.

We’ve been to many sites all over Britain with our two young children. This one is by far the best, clean excellent facilities, friendly, would say 5*, excellent, we shall be visiting again in May. We try to get every year; our kids are now 4 and 7 and love it as we do. Ideal family based holiday. We shall be camping this time in our tent not the caravan for a change, this shall be our first time with the tent but we love the site and it’s well worth a visit

High quality site, very well maintained, and with a price to match. Run by the Caravan Club, but accepts non-members, and units other than caravans.

Site is divided into two parts, separated by the road leading to the Nene Valley Country Park. One half is predominantly hard standings (actually coarse gravel), while the other side is all on grass. Both sides have pitches clearly marked, though some people (on the grass side at least) seemed unable to cope with pitching where indicated.

The grass section, where we stayed, has a very pleasant atmosphere, pitches being a good size, and distributed in small groups amongst mature trees (not just an "open field" as suggested by Mark Griffiths above). Plenty of space between pitches for playing games. Plenty of facilities for fresh and waste water, rubbish disposal, etc, but only one toilet block. There’s another one in the hard-standing area. Despite the site being pretty full, this proved to be sufficient, as most visitors were in caravans, and had their own facilities.

The Nene Valley Country Park is a lovely area for walking and cycling, as well as having facilities for water sports. The entrance is just 100m from the campsite entrance, and entry is free (though I think they charge for parking). There are cycle routes everywhere, into the countryside as well as right into Peterborough town center, just over 3 miles away. You can also get there via the Nene Valley Railway, which runs steam trains, but not very frequently.

The site shop sells very little, so you’ll have to go off-site for provisions, and there is no club, restaurant or bar - this is a peaceful site! There is at least one children’s playground. Dogs are welcome, but we suffered a bit from this, as there was fairly constant barking during daylight hours, though thankfully it stopped at night.

Updated 21/6.06

Having just tried to book for our second stay, I need to inform you that this site’s attitude to tents leaves a little to be desired. Having planned to visit with friends, we found that they have only 6 pitches allocated to tents, and you can’t put a tent on a piece of grass allocated to a more up-market unit. So, if you’re planning to go in a group with mixed accommodation, you’ll not be able to pitch together, if you can get in at all.

Just returned from our third visit to Ferry Meadows, only spent a couple of days as we were on route home from France, it makes for a handy stop off the A1 when travelling north.

Nothing much I can add to the comments above, it is an excellent site, there is a pub/restaurant within easy, safe walking distance (footpath) also if you don't want to go to a large supermarket for just a few bits, when you leave the site along Ham lane, turn left and there is a road sign pointing to local shops, well worth a run anyway to see the beautiful cottages on route ! The local shops provide most things although a little dearer than supermarkets.

Remember that people are always more prepared to write and complain than they are to praise good service.

We visited this site during October half term and unfortunately the weather was rather wet. We had previously experienced pitch flooding and had tried to ensure we were on a dryer pitch this time as we had our two young granddaughters with us. However following a night of heavy rain we woke to find that our caravan pitch was completely flooded and most of the others were the same. On speaking to other caravanners who had experienced the same problem and spoken to the wardens about it they were told like it or lump it there is nothing we can do about it. I must say that the whole attitude of the unfriendly wardens at Ferry Meadows makes us unsure about returning to what is a lovely site in a beautiful location. Never have I experienced such unpleasant staff on a caravan club site.
