Camping and Caravan Club site situated on the outskirts of Oxford - non-members welcome. Medium sized site. There is a Park and Ride opposite if you want to explore the town. Return fare in February 2001 was £1.30 with frequent departures throughout the day. The free map available at the portacabin is worth picking up. Excellent internal roadways. Rather regimental in layout makes the site less visually appealing than some. Very well maintained. If you want a quiet site you need to look elsewhere as a railway line runs close by with fairly frequent trains and there is some sort of cold food depot with large numbers of refrigerated lorries arriving and leaving both day and night. Touchwoods Sports shop is geared more to tenting but you may find something useful. Good range of outdoor clothing. Large facilities block for the size of site. Seven toilets, five showers, and twelve sinks should eliminate any waiting. Electric hand dryer is in the shower section. Showers were fairly roomy and worked well. No private washing cubicles. Four deep industrial style sinks under canopy outdoors. Fitted too low as usual. Normal C&CC on-site facilities. There is a nature reserve nearby but that seemed to be little more than a field. The Thames is less that half a mile away and has a fairly good path. The town itself is just under two miles away - following the roads marked as a cycle route (down Bertie place) leads first through a small playground then a fair sized park further on. Head towards town from the site and turn right at the Fox and Hounds pub. The first bridge has a path which leads across a tributary of the Thames to a nature reserve.
