We are a family of three (one experienced camper - that's my husband, and two not experienced) tent campers. Our ideal campsite would be off the beaten track, with beach access. Penrhyn Bay Caravan Park fits the bill in both respects.

Penrhyn Bay Caravan Park is the first campsite we have stayed in the UK and we had an excellent time. It is right on the coast and has rockpools and a sandy beach (didn't try swimming in it, it was too cold). I bought my kite with me and it was just the perfect place for kiteflying as it was constantly windy! There were not many people staying there when we went, so it was nice and quiet. There was not a lot of shelter from the wind however, although there doesn't seem to be a lot of trees on the wind side of the island and what shrubbery there is, is all on a lean! I think you get the picture!

The view is out to the Irish Sea and you can see Holy Isle and the ferries coming in and out of Holyhead.

There is a children's play area which has swings, and a climbing thing and two of those little static pretend bulldozer things in the sandpit (which were a hit with the youngest member of the family). There is an indoor pool (I think it was about 70p for kids) and a games room but we didn't go to either. The toilets and showers were kept clean and the hot water is by push-tap method and was lovely and warm. I think that the hairdryers were coin operated. The soap dispenser had run out, but there was plenty of toilet paper.

If you like make-your-own-fun holidays with the sound of waves and the wind blowing to lull you to sleep then you will like this place. We woke up at dawn and after showering etc went for a walk along the beach, flew the kite and dug sand castles, while the sun got gradually higher in the sky. Superb!!

There were people with dogs there and the dogs weren't on leashes. There is another campsite right next door which has a cafe - peered through the window but didn't go in but the prices seemed quite reasonable.

People can launch their jetskis here and I also saw some people kayaking near the beach.

I should point out that we went on a non-bank holiday weekend, at the beginning of May, and that we only stayed one night. If I was going to stay in Anglesey again I would most likely stay there again.

We had only a day to spend in Anglesey but while we were there we did a quick tour of Holy Isle, drove right around Anglesey, had our photos taken at LlanfairPG and visited Plas Newydd which was very nice. At Plas Newydd there is a well constructed and maintained adventure playground (tucked around the back, in the wood) which has very nice picnic tables. The house is lovely, the view is very pleasant, and the garden is beautiful.

Remember that people are always more prepared to write and complain than they are to praise good service.

We have camped here many times. We have camped here in large groups each summer for many years now. The physical descriptions of the area by other people are quite correct.

A nice large site, right by the sea. No protection at all, and have seen many tents and awnings destroyed here during stormy weather, but generally is a good all round site to camp in. BUT the down side of this site is:- TREVOR, the millionaire owner is one of the most miserable people you could ever want to meet! His wife, son and workmen are GREAT though!, so keep out of Trevor's way if you camp here! Over the years he has progressively put the prices up, and messed up our GROUP pre booked pitches (usually 4 of us), and charged us the new higher prices despite paying a full deposit a whole year in advance! (NO reward for being regulars here!)

The toilets are a disgrace. Only four showers for the entire site! Only one chemical toilet disposal point, and very few water points, for the entire site! So long hauls to collect and dispose of water will be encountered! We have since camped at much nicer places in North Wales, where the above problems are non-existent, and have for three years now gone elsewhere. We gave Trevor another chance this Easter. Not much different! Toilets still a disgrace, still not many water taps; chemical disposal point now has a roof on it! There were a lot more electrical hook ups though, which might explain why the power went off about three times an evening! Oh I and I forgot to mention, he is in the habit of turning UP the tumble drier charge during very wet weather, just to make a miserable day even more miserable! (Which is in contravention of the re-sale of electricity act 1974)

So if you can cope with these conditions, then you might enjoy your stay here!

We have stayed at the campsite next door, that used to be fantastic until taken over this year, by a couple of prats, who are trying their hardest to emulate Penryhn and not doing very well at it.

Since then we have stayed here, you can have fires and music (but be considerate) and there is enough space not to feel cramped like a load of penguins huddled on an island.

The ground is well looked after and level enough for a camper van with or without hook up. My one complaint is this prices, If you are two people in a two man tent it's fine, but as soon as you start to add extra people, dogs, boats, kayaks, awnings etc it can soon end up costing an absolute fortune.

The view is fantastic, the beach is brilliant: clean enough to snorkel and kayak, and once during the day there are massive waves that come off the wake of the ferry, great for kids, they all leg it into the water when it happens.

Not too much to do for adults, but if you like the peace and quiet get away from it all feeling, sitting and chilling, you’ll love it. We do.

We have stayed here loads of times. The site is beautiful and I have no complaints whatsoever. The pool is great and the organising of pool games and fun days for the kids is outstanding. The staff are really pleasant and the couple who have just taken over the shop are great - anything you need they have at reasonable prices. It saves having to go off the site for anything. I would recommend this caravan site to anyone; it’s great!!!!

The site is great for the family who like to spend time at the beach, water sports, kite flying, bike riding and fishing. The shop will supply you with all your fishing and food needs. There is another shop on the next door site that you can use too. If you need a bigger food shop there is a Tesco in Holyhead and a hard ware shop in Valley for any camping needs. The pool can get busy and isn’t always supervised {70p for children £1.10 adults} but is very clean. Toilets and showers are clean when people don't let their children mess. You will be given a card to enter which can be fun when husband needs card to leave and enter site. Games room is a bit intimidating as teenagers can hog pool table {my teenage lads didn't like it}. Park is great for younger campers, but on a night older children can be there until 11pm when they are moved on. Will need to travel a little bit for days out on Anglesey.

The site can get very windy and the last night we were there people lost tents and belongings. My advice: although a nice view in good weather it is not a good idea to camp near the edge. The people in the shop are very friendly and helpful. I would use this site again

We have been staying at Penrhyn Bay in tents and caravans off and on for 15 years. Just to echo other reviews the location is fantastic right on the headland. Once you've nipped to the Tesco in Holyhead all you need to do is chill out and relax, swim (in the sea or pool), build sandcastles, fly kites, go for walks. The site is clean and tidy and if you have a wander around you'll discover the second shower/toilet block - so more than 4 showers! If you ask at Reception you can have a second card for a deposit so different members of the family can go to the toilet/out independently. If you want busy nightlife this isn't for you but it's a great family site. Oh and Trev has never been grumpy with us, however Rob (son) did laugh himself silly at my first attempt at reversing a caravan - also offered to help though!
