I started camping just two years ago and this was the first site I went to (was taken by friends who had been previously). The site is beautiful, with a shallow lake. The children can take a dinghy into a flowing stream to play in. The site is split into three areas each with a play park. I have visited three times since and have never had a bad pitch. There is a fishing lake for those who are that way inclined and a fantastic walk through the forest my Springer Spaniel loves.
In short I would definitely recommend a visit to this site all sites I have visited since are marked from the benchmark that is Sherwood Forest so far it is still in the lead for a site in this price range

As a single parent I was a little dubious of going camping with only my son for company. I should not have worried. The staff were extremely helpful, the site wonderfully clean and my son (10) even seemed to want to use the showers every night (a major feat to get him to use hot water and soap at home!). The days were spent either out at local attractions or on the lake in the dinghy. We felt so at home that we have booked for two separate weeks next year. For anyone wanting to mountain bike it is a dream come true.

I visited this site at October Half Term, and although I found the site to be very nice, and probably beautiful in summer, there was one major drawback for me - a lack of hard standing pitches.
The site is open all year round, and the state of most pitches was terrible, just complete mud, and as it was booked up the week I was there, some poor people had to pitch on what was the worst state of pitches I have ever seen.

Remember that people are always more prepared to write and complain than they are to praise good service.

I have just returned from camping at this site, following a trip up country involving stays at three different sites. It was our first time at Sherwood Forest camping, though I know the area quite well.
Unlike the other reviewers here, I wasn't overly impressed. On arriving we liked the setting, but the site felt very crowded. Although this is inevitable in August there seemed to be a wish to cram in as many people as possible.
The site had pleasant staff, but lacked a personal touch and we were unable to have our ice blocks from the freezer as the member of staff had just locked up but did not offer to help us. The other two sites we stayed at were considerably more keen to please.
The toilets were not particularly clean; In the gents the partition between the two cubicles had been torn off and was hanging by a thread. Some nasties were left behind in the pan and the whole inside of the building was grubby with flies and cobwebs.
I do not expect absolute perfection from a campsite, but given that this was the most expensive of the three we stayed at it should have outclassed the others. The reality was actually the other way around.

We visited this site a total of 5 times in 2008, the first 4 were faultless and enjoyable however the 5th was not, we pitched where they told us and as per the instruction, a couple of hours in to our stay a member of staff told us that we had pitched wrong even though I had followed the instruction's down to a T, when I pointed this out the member of staff was one of the rudest people I've come across, on our return home I wrote a letter explaining what had gone off and I didn't even receive a reply.
