We have just returned from a weekend camping at the Little Lakeland Caravan Park in Wortwell, Norfolk. Though the site was beautifully maintained and run, I feel I have to contact you regarding their attitude towards families with young children. We have two children 2 and 6, and when I booked into the site I made it clear of our situation and was assured that the site was family friendly.

However, during the night our 2 year old woke a couple of times and cried for about 2-3 minutes. I am the first to appreciate that a baby crying during the night is very annoying, but that's what babies do - cry.

The next morning the owner of the site was very unfriendly and quick to point out that he had received complaints about my son.

Considering the owner explained that this site was a family site it does seem very strange to have such a hostile attitude towards small children, particularly when my two had behaved really well all weekend and at no time were they unruly or noisy.

As I commented earlier, I have nothing but praise for the site itself, in fact it was one of the nicest we have been to for many years, it just a shame that when advertised as child friendly they caused such upset for all involved.

My family and I visited this campsite last year (2004). We have a 7yr old. There were not many children at this site but we were lucky as the tent next to us had the only other 2 children camped in it so our little one had friends to play with.

We were kept awake every night but not by any children or babies but instead by a noise which sounded like threshing machines. We still don't know what the noise was (we should have asked) but I doubt if it was anything to do with the campsite; it was probably neighbouring farms.

Despite these noises you cannot give a better recommendation than to say "Yes I would make a return visit" probably during the school holidays.

I am very surprised to hear of these comments (Sarah Bloomfield, above) as the site owners have very young grandchildren who visit and stay at the site regularly. My wife and I have been visiting this site for a number of years in preference to any others and have to say that the owners are very friendly to all who enjoy the site but would also pass on any complaints made to them but not maliciously and only in an effort to maintain harmony. I hope this lady will give the owners the benefit of any doubt as I feel sure they will be surprised if not hurt by her comments, I'm sure they would have been made with best intentions. This is without a doubt the best kept and best run site that we have ever had the pleasure of visiting and we have only heard praise from other holiday makers we have spoken to many who return year after year to this little gem.

As I have been a regular visitor to this campsite for thirteen years (the last six of which we have been pitched permanently) I find the statement above by Sarah Bloomfield very surprising. I have always found the owners to be helpful and very polite. I have toured the best part of the British Isles and have never found a more welcoming and comfortable site, and I am sure the owner was only dealing with the situation with all visitors’ interests in mind. From my own experiences over the years I cannot recommend this site highly enough.

I have visited family who were staying at the site on a couple of occasions. The problem here is not the site itself as everyone has mentioned but more to do with the way in which the owner communicates to his site guests. I have experienced his short abrupt interpersonal skills. I believe that they are not intended to be offensive, however if they were worded in a more diplomatic way then they may not have created the disharmony being felt.

Lets hope the one off would be visitors are not put off of visiting such a beautiful part of our country.

We went mid-week and it was quiet. A lovely site and the owner was most welcoming, even to the extent of re-opening the shop for a few essential purchases. The local pub (The Bell) which he recommended served an excellent meal, and booking is advisable.

Stayed last October for three nights. Found the owner very welcoming and helpful. The fishing and wildlife was excellent. It was very peaceful. I have no complaints about Little Lakeland whatsoever. Will be visiting again very soon.

Sarah must have been to a different site?

Lakeland and its owners are great, very child friendly,

My 8 year old son loves its, well behaved children can be left to play, Tom and the friends he has made there, love the play area and being able to play as they wish.

The facilities are also top quality, and the owners cannot do enough for you, one of our favourite most relaxing sites

Jon.

For some years now I have stayed at Little Lakeland in my touring caravan, and in all that time I’ve found the owner peter to be very helpful, from helping me place my caravan onto the pitch to ordering me a news paper every day. The toilet and shower block always spotless with good facilities like washing machines and plenty of hot water for washing up the dishes. I have been to many sites all over the British Isles but this must be my favourite.
