[The following text is the result of combining two reviews, from people who were at the site at the same time, and had very similar comments. Rather than asking my readers to read the same stuff twice, I have combined them. My thanks to “Maria” and “Mr & Mrs Woodward” for their contributions]

We found this campsite to be run in a very military style, and were dismayed at the number of rules and regulations. Specific problems we had were:

  • Children under 7 had to be accompanied by an adult. This included when playing the play area and going to the toilet. Between our two families, three out of four of our children were under 7, and it would have been nice to know when booking that they would be so restricted.

  • No football. So the kids can’t play in the playground unsupervised, and they can’t play footie by the tent where they can be supervised. What can they do?

  • The toilets were closed daily for cleaning between 11:30 and 12:30. Nice that they’re being cleaned so thoroughly, but try telling a 6-year-old he has to wait an hour!

  • The owners constantly patrolled the site in their 4x4. I suppose it’s nice to know they’re keeping an eye on things, but we felt like we were under surveillance all the time in case we should step out of line.

  • We had to be off the pitch by 11am. This is a bit early when you want to have breakfast, you have to take down the tent(s), and you’re dealing with kids and dogs as well. What’s more, it removes a whole hour of canvas-drying time when compared with the more normal noon departure.

  • Although the site claims to have space for 15 caravans, 10 camper vans and 5 tents, there were many more on the site: at least ten tents alone, plus others on unmarked pitches. There were just two showers for each sex.

  • Perhaps the biggest potential problem was the neighbours. Not within the campsite, but on the adjoining land. They had youngsters (estimated no more than 12 years old) driving cars and motorbikes on the land adjacent to the children’s play area, with only a frail fence. Any loss of control on the part of these young drivers could have been disastrous. What’s more, we were constantly subject to the noise of revving engines.

On the positive side, the site was flat, and was kept clean and tidy

While we appreciate the need for rules, we did feel very tied down on this site. We were not able to relax and enjoy our holiday as we would have wished. This was our first visit to the site, and it will be our last. It would be more suitable for elderly campers than for families with young children.

Big thumbs-down from avid campers! =(

This site is now adults only, so most of the comments made no longer apply. Whilst I will agree on the military style running of the site, the atmosphere was a lot more relaxed without children.

A nice site, only neighbours I was aware of were from the industrial units adjacent to the site (not visible).
