Over the last ten years Skelwith has come along way, with new toilet facilities, motor home dump station, dog and boot wash, fantastic shop and new launderette and library with wi-fi.

Most of the pitches have been resurfaced, its a real magical place and we love staying there because we can get the bus at the main gate and walk forever.

We only wish we could afford a static!

A lovely site, high on the hill in the trees.

Beautiful clean facilities and staff that were just so helpful.

We arrived after a nightmare journey and they immediately came to help and encourage us with soothing words as we were a bit fractious.

Well located to explore the lakes.

A well stocked shop and a very pleasant place to relax.

Great, spacious site, amazing wildlife (rabbits, deer, etc.) superb play areas and helpful staff. Clean, well equipped toilets and showers.

All the touring pitches are hardstanding so come equipped with rockpegs and a heavy hammer if you want to have a hope of getting your awning up!

Also choose your pitch carefully, as we, and the tourer next door to us got flooded out a couple of times, as rainwater has nowhere to drain to.

Other than that, lovely site, but overwhelmingly geared up for the wealthy occupants of the many statics that cover the site.

Picking your own spot was poor as regulars always got the best spot even if you had booked six months in advance. We were offered a spot on a layby, with our young children we would have left if this was all that was available. In the end we found a spot that the staff were not aware of and they appeared surprised that it was clear. Hard standing on site made it hard to fix awnings, spikes needed. Drunken duck was to far to walk if you had children with you, would have been better to take car.

Lovely hard standing, very sheltered site set 130 acres of woodland.

You pick your own pitch and its hard as they are all lovely and each pitching area is different from the next, so you can choose your outlook, the only downside is at peak times and the site is full there are some pitches rather on the small side.

The toilet/shower blocks are quite old, but very clean and heated. There is also a very large children's adventure playground with touring pitches near to it.

The whole area is a walker's paradise, and real ale drinkers are in for a treat as the Drunken Duck a one mile walk out of the rear of the site is a micro brewery.

Ambleside is a 2 mile walk from the site.
