We've always found Pennance Mill Farm Campsite just outside Falmouth to be a brill, well run well cared for clean and safe site for families.
Showers are good, free hot water. Free good washing up areas. Laundry with dryer, iron etc, freezer. Electric security gates which are locked at night. Little farm shop for essentials.
Bus stops outside entrance, for Falmouth, (passing modern swimming baths with waves) and big Asda etc 10 mins away by car so handy.
This site is ideal for good old fashioned family fun -
Not to be recommended though if its commercialised holidays with on site bars, music, disco & noisy nights you want - because here the 'no noise after 11pm' rule really works!
Owners Alan and Vanessa Jewell live on site and the fact so many families return year after year says it all.
A children's play area in front of the farmhouse is great place to make new pals & re-unite with old ones for another great holiday...
Farmer Alan is like the pied piper, big kids & little kids love him, his big smile & great sense of fun. And his free tractor rides!
He provides free entertainment every night in the barn (trust me it's not to be missed!!) nobody is pressured to join in but somehow you just do... lol. Every night's a different theme.
Also you can stay in one of their well equipped chalets - as we did for our second holiday there last year at the end of the summer ... so serene & peaceful ... Vanessa had the beds made & everything was just brill... thanks our chalet had everything we could possibly have wanted and more!! Incidentally, we used the oven most nights & the coin meter hardly registered so it certainly is no rip off!!
Looking forward to another 2 weeks holiday before so long..

I have taken my grand children to this site for the last 5 years. After two years my daughter and her partner also joined us. They refuse to go anywhere else. It's a great family site and not commercialised in any way. The Jewells are great and work very hard to make sure everything is fine and, as for the entertainment, it's brilliant. Three beaches nearby, and Falmouth, as well as easy access to Cornwall's attractions, make it a perfect holiday for us. Can't wait to go again this year.

Beautiful family orientated site, set in lovely countryside, very relaxed atmosphere, clean facilities, free dish washing, showers etc. Level sites for those whose want, serviced pitches if wanted, also relaxed grassy areas for those who prefer. Tractor rides for youngsters, entertainment in the barn for everyone, put on by owners Alan and Vanessa who really understand families (they have their own). There is a small shop for necessities, and help at any time. Fun for all, and also so relaxing too. Parents.. no worries. A private path through countryside approx. 20 mins walk to the beach. Or a few mins by car to a car park right on the beach. Shop, and life guards on the beach. Only 20mins approx. by car to Falmouth where lots to do in all weathers. And of course the cliff path walk. What more could anyone want. We have come here for 35 years, and our children now bring their kids. 7 of them and we have a wonderful family reunion (4 from Luxembourg) they would be devastated if we stopped coming to Meanporth, and Pennance Mill Farm.

Lovely family friendly site. Been going for 35 years, at least once a year, occasionally more. Always in school hols, with our kids, now with our kids and grand kids. The site is clean well equipped with free warm shower blocks, and washing up sinks. Also laundry room. "only pay for the washing machine". There is really good entertainment each evening put on by the owners, Alan and Vanessa Jewell, for the children and also for families. The tractor rides each morning for the younger children are magical. and after all that, the site is set in beautiful cornish scenery, with fields rolling all around. There is a private path to walk to Maenporth beach, keeping safely away from the road, built by Alan Jewell himself. Nothing is ever too much. And on top of all that, Falmouth itself with all those attractions is only 10 / 15 mins away by car. Or a beautiful cliff path walk, with fantastic views maybe 3/4hr or so depending on your fitness. No one should miss this gem.

Having read the first reviews above I was unsure whether to book for the bank holiday but I can not praise the owners highly enough. I had to drop my van off on thursday and go back and pick up the dive boat and the owners could not be more helpful. From dawn til midnight they are cleaning muddy toilet blocks ,taking the children for tractor rides or putting entertainment on in the barn. I think that we prefer to moan rather than give praise where it is deserved. I will be going back.

We have just come back from a 2 week stay at Pennance Mill.
Alan & Vanessa are a great couple very laid back and friendly; nothing is to much trouble
We had great fun participating in the fun events (family Olympics).
There was always something to do on the nights.
My good friend Dave especially liked the folk dancing with the worm.
So all the people that didn't like Pennance Mill you will have to try and find some where better and all the people that like it what more can I say.

I've just come back from a fab weekend staying at the farm. Having started my holiday on Thursday at the AWFUL Porthkerris Dive Centre campsite. We drove to Falmouth desperately looking for somewhere clean to stay after cutting the Porthkerris trip short after one night.
The farmer was very friendly, told about the bus routes into town, nice places to eat and advised us where the quieter parts of the camp were away from large groups.
There was a large play area in front of the main house for children with a trampoline and swings.
The showers were spotless and there was always hot water. We would definitely stay here again. ;o)

We stayed at Pennance Mill during the last week end of May this year and as previously had a very good stay. The owners took a lot of trouble to entertain the children with tractor rides, games evening, disco etc, and our daughter quickly made friends with other kids around. Despite being a Bank Hol week end it certainly did not feel crowded. The toilets/showers were spotless throughout our stay and never did we have to queue for a shower or lack hot water. Overall, we love this site for its fantastic location, good facilities and its children-friendly owners.

During the last seven years I have camped at Pennance Mill during both high and low season with my son Ben. We have had the pleasure of both the quiet times in low season with the space and the peace of the valley, and also the peak times when it is extremely busy. Over the years Alan and Vanessa have become firm friends to us and to many other campers who have returned to the site for many years, some now measuring their length of custom in decades rather than years.
I personally feel that the accusation of avarice is very much misplaced given that the 4-6 weeks of high season represent the lions share of the farms annual income. During the winter much work has been done by Alan and Vanessa to open up further space on the farm so that they are able to avoid any "overcrowding" during the high season this year.
Overall, I think that the first two reviews have only one valid point between them i.e. the advertised play park was cramped for a total of two nights last season, there has been no repetition this year due to the additional space available. If you don't like people don't camp in the high season would seem appropriate advice for Messrs Hill and Massey.

I also disagree with the pessimistic reviews provided here. We have been camping for over 20 years and have visited many sites around the British Isles. We stayed for two weeks in August 2006 at Pennance Mill and had a great time. The owners Alan and Vanessa worked really hard to ensure everyone was happy and were excellent hosts. The free tractor rides for the children and free evening entertainment were great fun, all very family orientated. The site was full but we never had to queue for any facilities, they were always clean and there was always plenty of hot water available. We had requested a large pitch in advance, this request was accommodated. We had no problems with the size of our pitch. I would highly recommend this site and would love to visit it again.
Keep up the good work Alan & Vanessa.

We have just returned from a week's camping at Pennance Mill Farm, Maenporth, and would totally disagree with the above reviews.
My partner is in a wheelchair and although there are no specific facilities for the disabled we were allocated a flat pitch close to all the amenities.
There were no tents on the children's play area and the children seemed to enjoy themselves especially on the daily tractor rides around the site given by the proprietor.
He and his wife worked from morning till night to make sure everyone was well cared for. There was varied family entertainment each night and the site was quiet from 11 o'clock.
If we had taken notice of the reviews above we would have missed out on a pleasant week's camping.

We have not stayed at Pennance Mill for a couple of years but as a family that likes it's home comforts, space and no intrusion we are amazed at the complaints about the site facilities and Alan and Vannessa the owners.
I have rarely come across people who care so much and work so hard for other peoples benefit.
You will always find someone cleaning the toilets or showers and we have never not been able to get into the showers or not had hot water at any time of the day. My recommendation to the kill-joys above is find somewhere else and leave this fabulous little gem for the rest of who appreciate it.

My family and I have been returning to this site for eight years and have never had any problem whatsoever. Alan and Vanessa are always attentive to detail and if there is any problem will take this on board and rectify it immediately or a.s.a.p. As for the derisory comments made by the above maybe these people should stay in a hotel and pay the price for it if they cant put up with a little inconvenience. THIS IS CAMPING AFTER ALL!!!

A family friendly campsite within easy reach of the beach. There is a bus stop at the campsite gate which can take you to a number of beaches on its route.
The campsite is not too large and is always clean and quiet beyond 11:30. Each night the owners organise events such as BBQ, Bingo, Children's Disco, Movie night, Quiz night, Skittles, Folk dance and more. For us this made the holiday as we always knew the children would be entertained. Also each event is free of charge so we saved a small fortune compared to some other commercial entertainment sites.
I would visit again and plan to do so this year.

We have stayed at Pennance Mill at Spring Bank for the last 2 years and intend to do back this year. If you want a large commercial site with tents/caravans in neat rows do not go. However, if you want peace and quiet on a site where the owners appreciate and care for their environment give it a try. I have camped all over the UK and on the continent but look forward to Pennance Mill.

This is a lovely site surrounded by countryside and about a twenty minute stroll to the beach. Our holiday was spoilt though by being pitched far too close to other campers. Tents were pitched so close together that guy ropes were crossing over. We had to park in front of our tent, as there was no room left to park either side. Some campers had to leave their cars at the bottom of the field they were camped in as space was so limited. The website for this site advertises a childrens play meadow, four days into our holiday this was filled with tents too, which were still there when we left!
We have used this campsite for four years and after a two year break returned this summer, we would not think of going again which is a shame as a super site was ruined by intense overcrowding.

Totally agree with the previous review for this site.
A lovely site that is spoilt by the Owners avarice. He had placed that many tents & caravans on the site, that the facilities were seriously overstretched, resulting in no hot water after about 9:30 in the morning. There were also long queues to use the washing up sinks.
This was supposed to be a family orientated site, but as a consequence of the amount of tents squeezed on the site there was nowhere left for children to play without endangering other people/tents & cars.
When told about our concerns with regards to the overcrowding, the owner's response was "It's great, This is my harvest"!!!
A site to avoid, particularly in the busy periods. Stick to sites where they know how to turn people away.
