We first visited this campsite in 2011. We had booked a specific pitch and were extremely disappointed when we discovered that the previous occupants had not vacated the pitch as arranged with reception. The staff, however, moved heaven and earth to ensure that we had a fantastic holiday. We found the site staff to be extremely helpful and courteous, the shop to be well stocked with a wide variety of items - food and leisure, toys and beach games. We were so impressed that we will be returning in 2012 and have already finalised our arrangements with this excellent site

We also hired a mobile home here in August 2009, but we'll not be returning. Here, the welcome is not at all friendly, except perhaps for the English. In the parc La Foret, the places for cars are very narrow, and there's always the risk of damage. As for access to the pool, you have to slalom between the cars on the main road, despite a tunnel which is very little used. Beware also of the sell-by dates in the stock in the little shop, which are not always respected. If you like a drink in the bar in the evening, I hope you are patient! Being well used to camping, I reckon the 4th star here is not deserved.

My parents have owned a mobile home here for 17 years. At the start, the atmosphere was very friendly, and the staff also. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case: the atmosphere has certainly changed over the years. My parents have bought a new mobile home this year, and we hesitated to change site. The mentality of the site has changed for the worse. Now it's all about making a profit, which is understandable, but not with these conditions – you have to pay extra for your invited guests, which I find shameful. On site, there is a shop and a pizzeria, but if they were open, it would be even better!
To sum up, I don't think this site deserves its 4 stars.

I booked a fortnight for my family this summer, and I have to say I was very disappointed with the service of the site. To start with, we booked with a private owner of a mobile home, who had purchased the mobile home on the site. I can tell you that you don’t get the same service at reception when you haven’t booked direct with the site. We had a problem with an empty gas bottle, and we lost a day’s holiday because they were so slow. And they’re not that friendly either.
But my real disappointment stems from the fact that we were in the ‘La Forêt’, which is peaceful, not far from the sea via the tunnel, even with young children (the walk won’t kill you, quite the opposite). On the other hand, it advertises a paddling pool for the children, which for our first week (in high season) was closed, opening just a few days before we left. This parc is also supposed to be served by a bread and takeaway service, of which there was no sign.
The staff at reception were charming with the English guests, they roll out the red carpet for them, but not for the other guests (like us) who could also be potential purchasers.
In summary, I’ll not be returning to this site.

I'm wondering if these people really did stay at the same place as me. We have been to this site for the last 2 years and are returning this year. My husband use to come to this site as a small boy some 30 years ago. We have 3 children 11, 13 and 16 they love it here and have made really good friends mostly French I'm pleased to say and these friends have been going to this site for years. Our children do not want to go any where else. The kids clubs are great. The staff are always helpful. The pitches are large and they will accommodate tents but all pitches are designed for caravans, but they will and do book these out for people with tents as we have been doing this. Excellent site staff and entertainment. We would highly recommend this site

We know this campsite well, and it's very pleasant.
Really close to the sea with a very nice beach.
Staff very welcoming.
Good entertainment.
Nice staff in the shop.
Only complaint: the pool is too small for the size of the site.
Nice children's entertainer.
One more complaint: you have to arrive on a Saturday, and I work at the weekend, so I always lose two days, plus the day of arrival and setting up.
Heated toilet block.

We have stayed twice at this campsite (2008/2009) and always with great pleasure. The pitches are large, the bar is lovely, the entertainment better than in most campsites, and we found the staff very pleasant. We're going back again this year, after a break last year to go to another 4-star site in the Vendée, but considerably poorer and where the staff were not very pleasant, and the entertainment non-existent.

Campsite with an ideal location. I've been going for 10 years in a mobile home, as my parents are owners of one. In 10 years, the atmosphere has changed a lot. I'll explain: at the beginning, the management was flexible and family-friendly. Now, they are on a course of profit at any price. Before, I could invite who I liked (respecting the rules of security and the peace of the neighbours), now if I want my WIFE to join me, I have to pay €7 per day (if I had children, even more). This is expensive for a pitch where my parents are already paying by the year. And if you invite someone for more than two hours, it's €2 per visit.
To summarise, for holidaymakers, it's very good, but if you want to own your own mobile home, walk on by.

I stayed in this campsite in July 2008 on a pitch which backed onto the lane by the pool complex. I was in a tent with 2 children. Unfortunately this lane was a delivery point with large truck arriving at all hours of the morning scaring the kids, and myself at times! Staff friendly, pool too small for number of guests, bar expensive so we brought our own beers! Beach beautiful! Will return.

Been using this site for nearly 10 years, first with the girlfriend on a motorbike, and most recently with the wife and two children (car, trailer, roofbox). Best things are the fact that the beach is so close, and the town is within walking distance (so little need to get in the car). Sailing (in the town) is fantastic (my 8 year old niece came out for a week to learn to sail), and the locals are friendly. The evening onsite entertainment (peak only) is great for kids. Fishmonger within walking distance, and the best oysters I have ever eaten fresh from the beds a short drive away.
Pitches are huge, and separated by hedges (and thus much better for containing kids). Day time activity club for kids (over 5 I think) was great for my niece (and us!)
Worst things (maybe I am just getting old): Web bookings are unreliable (last year our booking was not honoured, nor were 3 others that had been made by people I had recommended the site to). 10 years ago it was completely French speaking, now they have English speaking staff and this spoils it for me a bit. The entertainment at night in the (independent Restaurant/Bar) can be a complete nightmare. Last year (booking not honoured, had to take the last pitch available right beside restaurant) the 'Music' was so loud it literally terrified the children (6 months, 18 months) and a tent provides little protection. The next night the Caravanner's behind us invited every English/Irish family round and we had the pleasure of drunken charades and singsongs until sunrise. This was the first time we had such obnoxious neighbours but each year there are more and more mobile homes/chalets and fewer and fewer tent pitches, and the cliental seems to be changing with it.
Overall: I have already booked 3 weeks for a tent in 2008. My parents have booked a mobile home for one, my mother in law and my niece for another.

Le Bois Soleil is a very nice campsite, very clean and well placed, being a stone's throw from the beach.
We've been going there for years, but we've become disappointed with the atmosphere, which had been great, but has gradually worsened with regard to entertainment, for example the dance evenings which have been lost. For the whole family, this was the only time we would dance, to have fun, and that was great. Furthermore, the evenings used to finish between midnight and 1am. But there are always people that complain. So the atmosphere has been completely ruined, there is just a little entertainment for the children, and sometimes for adults. I don't understand why people complain. The dance evenings were contained in one area of the site, and there was never overflow. Camping, it's a state of mind. The thing is to accept a life of "holidays" and not of "convalescence". If you want to go to bed at 10pm and sleep with silence around you, don't go to a campsite by the sea where there are youngsters, and especially not in July and August. We are a couple of 45 and 50, full of life, loving dancing, and loving being surrounded by youngsters. Youth is life, gaiety. We don't go camping for a rest!

This is a HUGE site. It has got a good feel to it, BUT it can be noisy at nighttime in the "Le Mer" area, and there is a bar just by the beach that is not owned by the campsite and therefore has a rowdier crowd than you would expect from the site entertainment. The music goes on till after midnight so would be frustrating if you had small children to get to sleep.
Also - the pool is by no means big enough to cope with the number of residents it has in high summer. I guess they built the pool and then the site expanded around it.
Having said all that it is a friendly, clean camp, and right next to a great beach.

We have been going to this site for the last 24 years and have seen great changes, mostly for the better. We take a touring caravan and have a pitch on La Mer site (the camp is divided into 3: La Forêt where static vans are kept, Les Pins and La Mer). La Forêt is some way from the beach (access via a tunnel) but the other two sites are right on the sea front. Latest additions in the last 2 years have been chalet style on La Mer and a swimming pool/restaurant complex behind Les Pins site. Lots of things organised for children and adults without disturbing the peace of people that do not want to participate. Lots to see and do in the region, particularly Royan only 3 miles away. Can highly recommend it.

This is a lovely campsite, with a "toe in the water". Lovely big beach. Cycle routes close by. Nice pool, but quite small. Shame that there's a road that divides the campsite into two halves. For those with small children, it's not very practical. On the road that separates the "seaside" part from the main part that contains the reception, there is a restaurant that organises karaoke (a private restaurant, that does not belong to the campsite). Impossible for the children to sleep before 1am, if you find yourselves close to this restaurant. If you go there, take accommodation well on the left (on the camp plan) in the "sea" sector, or well on the right in the "pine" sector. The "forest" sector is not brilliant, beside the main road, and what's more, the crossing is not secure for the children who want to go from here to the "pine" sector, where all the activities are.

We came across this site last year by pure chance while on our camping tour of France.
We had a tent, but it was so popular that there was no tent pitches left, so they accommodated us with one of the touring caravan pitches (at a tent rate).
I was very impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The site was very clean & tidy, and had a wonderful feel to it. The facilities were excellent.
We've just booked a week there this May with our new baby, so the tent is staying in the attic and we've hired one of the chalets instead.
Definitely can't recommend this site highly enough.

Having been an owner of a mobile home on La Loubine for 12 years from 1990 to 2002, we moved with Gilbert and Damien to Bois Soleil (only 800m from La Loubine). Great decision, as we have moved back to what La Loubine was when we first went in 1988. It is a small family run site with great facilities. You should try it.
