South of Koblenz this site sits on top of one of the escarpments overlooking the river Rhine just outside Lahnstein. It is very well managed and you should ask to have one of the sites overlooking the river. The views are excellent and at night the vista just gets better. There is a short climb up to the site on a very good road from the river and the area is good for visiting all the little towns along the river e.g. Rudesheim and getting to know more about this wine-growing area. There is a civic swimming pool near the site and the castle Burg Lahneck is open to visitors. I've been here four times and never tire of the area.

Having just picked up our new caravan we were more interested in the caravan than the campsite, until we arrived! Stunning scenery overlooking the Rhine with the impressive Burg Lahneck (castle) and a municipal swimming pool next door. The campsite oozed efficiency and the facilities were spotless. If you are looking for a good base to tour the Rhine region then look no further. We will certainly be going back.

We arrived and were given a super pitch overlooking Lahnstein (as we requested on the advice of the first reviewer!) but it was a tight squeeze, with the owner measuring exactly where we should be with a tape measure. We found this area too quiet for our 3 boys. The pool complex however was super but was an extra charge. We were unfortunate with the weather as it was quite wet but managed to visit some towns. The local and on site restaurants were quiet too but in all the facilities were clean and tidy and the staff helpful. We enjoyed our few days there before moving on to the Black Forest.

We stayed here in 2004. Excellent site and area. The owners are ultra efficient, even announcing (hi-de-hi style) at 2130 each evening that the play area is closed and that everyone must be quiet on the campsite. And they were! The adjacent pool is good, with discounted tickets available from reception. The only negative for us is that we like to cycle everywhere - literally. Our best weeks are when we don't actually use the car. At this site you have to drive most days, as the ride up the hill from the town is too much. There are nice bike rides along the Rhine or the Lahn. A great site, but if you like entertainment and a pub/club atmosphere this is not the place for you.

The facilities are spotless. The noise from the trains that go up and down both banks of the Rhine, and the road traffic, take a bit of getting used to, but we slept well none the less! It was slightly irksome that, with a door on the "wrong" side of the (English) van we were instructed, though admittedly not with a tape measure, exactly where to park and were prevented from parking with the rear window to the view, as we would have liked. It is quite a stiff walk back up from the village, but the view is worth that effort. In particular we found the local people very happy to chat to us about their town and, for example, the Kommandant kindly continued to speak to us in German even though he could no doubt have completed everything quicker in English. The food nearby was fine.

I can say little more than has been said already. Lovely peaceful campsite, with friendly staff (though some can seem a bit stern at first). The strict pitching regime (mentioned earlier) might not suit some people. And the other thing worth mentioning is that, as well as the constant noise of trains, there are also numerous churches in the town below, which seem to have come to an arrangement whereby there will always be at least one ringing bells! This does stop at night though, so if you can cope with the trains, you’ll sleep ok. On the subject of the trains, we were apprehensive at first, as their noise is quite prominent, but we soon got used to it, slept just fine, and would still call the site peaceful. We took the bikes via tracks beside the Rhine into Koblenz one day, but I confess we cheated by taking them down the hill on the car, so we didn’t have to ride back up it! No club, pub or restaurant one site, though there is a café/restaurant (which we used twice) shared with the next-door pool, and a more posh restaurant a little further (which we did not use). The pool is lovely, entry for campers is quite cheap, but beware that the water was a little on the cool side.

A quiet well run site with very friendly owners who speak excellent English and very helpful. We were asked if we had a preference for pitches and naturally opted for a view over the town and river. The restaurant adjacent to the site served excellent food with a good varied menu. I agree with other reviews about the railway but we didn't find this a problem in any way. We will certainly be returning next year but spending more time there.
