We recently returned from Les Charmettes, loved it. The site is large, but each pitch is quiet and very private. We were a long way from the facilities but I could use the exercise. We did pony riding, mini golf, tennis, karting, the seaside, swimming and much more. The area is great as well, rolling hills, beautiful beaches. Would strongly recommend the market in Les Mathes. Staff were all excellent and helpful. Fully intend to go back and would have no hesitation in recommending it to families. Siblu is excellent value for money.

The campsite Les Charmettes has a very good pool area, but apart from that, there is plenty that could be improved – notably a security service that could give us the chance of a good night's sleep!
We stayed a week, and it's really very noisy, with incessant comings and goings of cars and scooters, and people shouting all night outside the mobile homes. Entertainment is more often in English than in French – we were very disappointed! This is the third campsite we have tried at La Palmyre, and we won't be returning!

Excellent campsite. Wonderful entertainment with special thank you to Anthony who entertained my 5 and 6 year old brilliantly. Really loved his job and it showed, nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful pool area with clean areas to sunbathe and good lifeguard cover at all times giving us great peace of mind (and able to sunbathe!)
We did not like our accommodation though, it was terrible.
We rented 321 independently and it was filthy and could have easily spoilt the holiday if we had let it! We were booked for 1 week in May and the weather was gorgeous. This was lucky as the cooker was disgustingly greasy and full of mouldy old food! Had booked 2 more weeks in August but cancelled and thought losing £200 deposit worth it!
Brill campsite though kids loved it

We have recently returned from a 10 day holiday at les Charmettes. The onsite facilities are excellent and there were plenty of activities for all of the children (ages 7-14). The only criticism I would have is the fact that most of the nightly entertainment was French. I feel that this is unfair on English speaking children. After spending a couple of nights there we became bored and the children uninterested as they didn't understand the shows. Apart from this we had a great time and will probably return.

We had an amazing time at Les Charmettes. We did not camp but it is our third visit. This time we went with our severely disabled son with Make-A-Wish Foundation. They organised our holiday, but Les Charmettes let us have the mobile home free of charge. All the staff were excellent and it is all spectacularly clean and very well run. A superb time for my son and us. We will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found the campsite to be dull, badly laid out and horribly small. The campsite itself is a joke to Siblu as during our Easter visit of this year, nothing was open, the outdoor pool in miraculous sunshine, the shop shut early and the mobile home was too far from the club, pressure sales on the site by the mobile home sales clerk, I would return but a few suggestions would not go amiss:
- Stop Presure Sales
- Open All Facilities as Advertised When Booking The Holiday.
- More Clubs
- Rentals Near The Club!

This summer we stayed in 2 campsites - La Pinède and L'Orée du Bois all in Les Mathes La Palmyre. Although these 2 sites were adequate, La Pinède great pool, poor entertainment and pitches, no privacy, very overpriced for entertainment on offer. During 2 weeks in August same rock band played 3 times, great if you liked them but unfortunately we didn't. L'Oree du Bois again fab new pool, very noisy at night as entertainment outside, but did finish and go quiet about midnight and security were on site. While in the area we stumbled upon Les Charmettes, and what a fantastic site this is. It is not the usual sandy dusty french campsite offering, more like a UK residential park site. The pools were the best we have come across and the bilingual evening entertainment and pub brilliant. We loved it so much we bought a caravan so will definitely be going back.
I heard a lot of people using the term 'you get what you pay for' and you certainly do, for families with kids Siblu is good value for money, not much cheaper than competitors but provides the best quality site holiday we feel is available in France.

Les Charmettes is a very neat campsite. Everything is clean. Our static caravan was nice and spacious. The place were it was situated was a bit boring, near a paved road. Animation is very good, although we did not make use of it, because everything was in French and/or English. As Dutch you feel a bit lost on this large campsite. Our kids of 11, 14 and 17 were a bit bored. Other Dutchmen we spoke to had the same experience.
A tip for the organisation: make a meeting point for Dutch kids: the rest they'll do themselves.
Conclusion: clean, nice campsite with everything on it, except not for the Dutch families.

We thought that this campsite was 1st class. It is very well maintained & there is plenty to do. The children's clubs are excellent and the pool too. There are plenty of lifeguards, which is very reassuring.
We will definitely be going back again.

We have just come back after a 2 week holiday staying at Les Charmettes. This is our 5th year staying at various campsites and this campsite was by far the best. We booked our mobile home directly with the owner and had the added advantage of using their bicylces (1 with a babyseat) and cot. Most mobile homes (no tents) were very private with high hedging and plenty of surrounding space.
Our 1 and 5 year olds really enjoyed the kids clubs in the morning and afternoons, which were very well run. The swimming complex was great with lots of slides, kids area, a covered swimming pool and plenty of lifeguards around. There was both child and adult entertainment during most of the day but the evening entertaining was the most impressive. There were shows for the kids and fantastic broadway style shows put on by the amazing talented, energetic staff.
The campsite was very well maintained and plenty of security. The on-site shops and restaurants / take aways were very good.
There was plenty of things to do and see around the area. A fantastic zoo, Youpiland (child's playground with bouncy castles etc), and a fairground all within a 10 minute drive from les Charmettes. The beaches were really lovely with lots of little pools filled with fish and crabs for the kids to explore. 2 of France's "Most beautiful villages in France" were nearby and definitely worth the visit. La Rochelle was only a 90 minute drive and had a great aquarium and port with lovely cobbled streets to walk around and enjoy window shopping or eating.
All in all we all had a great time even if the weather wasn't just so good. A 2nd visit will certainly be on our cards in the future. However I would imagine it would get very busy in July and August.

We visited in June of 2006 having found the site on the net. The first thing to say is that the web site descriptions and photos are very accurate. The site itself is well laid out and has something to offer both adults and kids alike. The swimming complex is first class and is well supervised by numerous lifeguards. The entertainment complex is very spacious and air conditioned for the hot nights with food and drink reasonably priced. The zoo at nearby Palmyre is well worth a visit as are the many kilometres of sandy beaches, which are also just a short distance away.
Overall I would rate this as a first class site.

This was the second time I have been to this site as I loved it the first time. The mobile homes are of a very high quality and extremely well laid out. The furnishings are all immaculate. The bedrooms are rather cramped but the beds are comfortable. The shower is spacious and the water is hot. I really like these mobiles. There is plenty of space outside for a barbecue and there is a gas barbecue provided as well as garden furniture.
The site itself is very well maintained, clean and in good repair. There are 2 heated outdoor pools, indoor pool and spa bath. The bar is great fun and very reasonably priced. All the amenities you would expect to find are here including shop, takeaway, video arcade, etc and there are plenty of activities.
The area is excellent for holidaymakers there is a funfair nearby and good beaches. We go to La Palmyre, which has a great beach and some really nice cafes.
The only downside was that that we could not get a mobile with air conditioning, as they were all booked. We did have a fan, which helped in the evenings, but it was uncomfortable staying in for lunch.
Overall I would rate this site extremely highly and would recommend this to anyone who wants to go to this part of France.
