There's nothing I can say against this campsite. I'm 18, and I've been going here since I was really small. I know all the regulars, and I can tell you that this campsite is brilliant. As for those who criticize, I just say come to this priceless campsite, and tell me if it's lacking in warmth. For those who want to believe, I say come and see for yourselves rather than believing the gossip.

This campsite calls itself peaceful! During our stay in August 2010, there was a lot of noise from several drunken neighbours until 3am, and the managers did nothing about it.

Not to be recommended if you are with children, and if you are looking for a bit of peace after a year's work!

Two positive points: the mobile homes are quite new, and the chips are good.

Very good stay at a family-friendly campsite, very peaceful, with very welcoming and friendly staff. A very pleasant week, with super games for the children, especially the bouncy castle, and a brilliant pool. Thanks again for these holidays.

Hello everybody.

We spent a super week at this campsite. Lovely atmosphere. Isabelle and her family do a remarkable job. Pleasant pool. Entertainment just right. In summary, a place to recommend to all families with children.

Looking forward to next year.

David, Camille and Thomas

p.s. You have only to go and try the atmosphere of the other coastal sites, and you'll see the difference.

A very good stay in a pleasant, peaceful setting. Thanks to Isabelle and to her staff for their kindness and accessibility. This site has managed to keep its family atmosphere, it's just a delight!

Been loyal to this campsite for several years now, as we own a mobile home there. We are delighted with it. Peaceful, good atmosphere, and every year something has been improved: the pool in 2009, and the sports field in 2010. Bliss!

Hello,

Living a few km from this campsite, I deplore the noise from the musical evenings, that I can hear well after 10pm.

It's not a question of complaining, but of knowing that the volume is too high, and should be reduced so as not to destroy the tranquillity of other holidaymakers outside the campsite. It's possible to hear music at 10 metres, without having it so loud it carries 1km on the wind.

Updated 24/8/2010:

Hello,

Following my earlier message concerning the noise from the evening entertainment, I think that my comments have had some effect, and I can say that I have not suffered the noise problems of previous summers. I thank you, and hope that it continues thus from now on.

We arrived the 25 July 2009, and were greeted by Isabelle the manageress with great kindness. As for the campsite, there’s nothing to be said against it: peaceful, quiet, super brand new pool, dance evenings twice a week, boules competitions and more. And bravo to François the chef for his superb fresh chips and his excellent paella. Wonderful. For my part, I’ll certainly return next year. Thanks to everyone, especially Isabelle.

The noise at several km is in your dreams. I have been going here for 12 years, and there’s no more noise at night than in the day. My caravan is next to the entertainment, and I can sleep after 10pm.

We are the owners of mobile homes at the "Camping de Chez Filleux". We are pleased that our holidaymakers are sorry to leave the kindness of Isabelle and the availability of her staff, and the good chips (not frozen) made by François. There are always people who are not satisfied; unfortunately, we can do little for them.

Encouraged by the generally good reviews (you have to discard the malcontents) we tried this campsite these last holidays in August. No problem at all, it was the site we sought.

We first went to this site in August 1976, and for many years, our children have been very happy here, and us too, and have some very good memories, and what's more, we'll be going back again this year, 2009! With many very happy memories of this super and peaceful campsite.

Hello everyone. We were here in July 2008, and I can tell you that we'll be returning in July 2009. The atmosphere was very pleasant, everyone was friendly, even the children said good morning to everyone (quite unusual), we spoke to all sorts of people during the evenings, or at the pétanque competition on Tuesday, or at the table tennis etc.

And the meals were good, and filled the plates (mussels, chilli, shallots, couscous and the other specialities of François and his wife Isabelle, who receives you with warmth and kindness.

The peace, the pool, the lake (though I never caught anything) games for children.

I'd advise everyone to go there and see for yourselves!

I have been the owner of a mobile home on this site for three seasons, and I have nothing against the place. Well, except that sometimes the sun doesn't shine, and it's not always as warm as you might wish. Shame. For the rest, hirers and myself are completely satisfied, especially with the peace. You want to go on holiday, this is the ideal place for relaxing and getting the most out of your holidays. Yes, you are on holiday, so don't forget that word ‘holiday'…

If we have chosen to invest in this campsite, it's simply because it is friendly to all, especially families. Our children find friends there and are never bored. So stop paying attention to star ratings and spending your money at campsites on the beach, where I'm not sure you'll find the same kindness.

Contrary to what some people say, I find that they are mistaken on certain points. For me, it's my first year, and I find that this campsite is brilliant for peaceful holidays. Thanks to the owner of the mobile home, we have discovered the camping life.

The staff is very pleasant, especially Isabelle, who is always there to help. I think that next year, we will be back, as the children were very happy, as they made many friends, and they were disappointed when we left.

Until next year at la Ferme de Chez Filleux

This year again we have spent excellent holidays at Chez Filleux. No problems with the welcome, Isabelle is always the same, always a kind word, even if she is busy. We specially love this place, where we can really relax to 100%, without fear of being disturbed by noise. We encounter the same people year after year - that's significant isn't it? For us, this is the fourth year, and we do not weary of the place. Thank you to all of the team.

Nothing but good things to say about this campsite. We go very regularly, and the children are happy, because, in general, they find friends who also return. There are also friendships amongst the parents.

What's more, the campsite is not a holiday factory, the little ones can roam the site roads in safety.

The malcontents should go to the factory sites at the seaside, they'll have a choice of 5-star sites, and they'll be in paradise. But the stars, you know what they mean?

In conclusion, us, we like going to Chez Filleux, while you, the malcontents, can go to Club Med or to the expensive campsites!

Henri.

Once again we return from our holidays, and once again we are completely satisfied with our stay at Chez Filleux. As always, the welcome is warm and friendly. Despite more gloomy weather this August, there is always something to keep you busy. Something for all tastes. But above all we love his campsite, and it's with immense pleasure that we will return.

I spent a very pleasant week with Isabelle. Nothing wrong with the welcome or the cleanliness, and the atmosphere is very friendly.

François the cook is ok. There is no doubt that when you cause bloody chaos and get kicked out, you can be somewhat bitter, can't you Aurélie?

Hi to all the team, and see you soon maybe.

J Louis

p.s. to Marie: I would advise you to change your glasses, when it comes to paving slabs that wobble. As for the cloudy water, that only lasted one day - the fault of people that bathe in shorts (men) and those who use sun tan lotion before bathing (often women).

I have just returned from my holidays, and I really regret having stumbled upon this campsite. I agree with Aurélie.

I was taken in by the publicity of the campsite, which advertised swimming pool, crazy golf, tennis, fishing lake, and when I got there I found a pool with cloudy water, a perimeter made dangerous by slabs that wobbled, unusable crazy golf invaded by weeds, tennis court with cracks across it (for which we had to pay an extra €2 per hour), and as for the lake, it's a spring with no bank and no fishermen.

In summary, a big disappointment and disillusionment which partly spoiled our fortnight's holiday.

Dear campers,

It's now several years that I have been visiting for a few days, now and then, the campsite of Chez Filleux, in July and/or August, and I am always very happy with the welcome I get.

Thank you Isabelle for giving us a bit of fresh air in the hot Charentais days.

More and more mobile homes, very well equipped, with little shady patios for relaxing, not to forget the little barbeques.

I would not want to omit the good humour and good cooking of Anne-Marie and François.

Until next year,

David..... And I'll bring my friends!

We are happy to return to this region that is always sunny, for us from Lorraine. Two years on the trot at Chez Filleux; two years of joy, tranquillity, and a lovely pool. We were welcomed by Isabelle: peaceful, no fuss: that suits us. If there is any problem, she rushes to fix it! Fruit and vegetables from the garden of François and his wife, what pleasure! If I were to start talking about the meals, well there wouldn't be space for us in 2007, but what the hell: I have never eaten such good chips, even in Belgium (sorry to my Belgian friends) and the dishes are of great home-cooked quality, even for us gourmets, at very reasonable prices.

I've been twice to the Chez Filleux campsite, the first time in July 2001 (a fortnight with my 2 children and husband) and last year (a fortnight in July 2006). We had superb holidays, with the sun to greet us. My children made so many friends. My husband relaxed. The welcome is very friendly. Isabelle is always available for campers, and François' chips are excellent, especially with mussels. My son and daughter have a single wish, and that's to go back again. And we too, so we have chosen to return in 2007. It's a very welcoming campsite, very family-friendly, where our children have a great deal of freedom, and the region is lovely.

I am truly sorry, but I do not share the opinion of Aurélie one little bit. I have stayed at the campsite La Ferme de Chez Filleux for two years now, and I have absolutely no complaints about the place. The staff is pleasant, always ready to help, and trying to make you happy. As for the food, during our three weeks of holidays last year, we took on average one meal out of two every day, and we have no complaint. I feel very happy at Chez Filleux, and I think it's a place for good living. The best way to find out is to join us.

Dreadful campsite (domestic scene between the management couple) having nothing in common with the brochure received. Small campsite, very poorly equipped. Muddy pitches. Tiny swimming pool with paddling pool surrounded by rusty wire netting. Dreadful atmosphere. Virtually no entertainment. Fast food inedible. Staff totally lunatic.

I am very disappointed; I don't recommend it to anyone.

If there's one thing I regret, it's not having called for a health inspection.

Bibiche, we totally agree to your comment! We have visited this camp site 6 times (!) and are going again this year!

Always a lot fun and good laughs with a lot of very nice French, British and Dutch people!

We are a family with three children (teenagers and a 9 year old) and we have all had a very good time, always. Teenagers are happy to see each other again after another year has passed. And the same for us parents!

It is a 2 star campsite, so things are as you can expect.

We love this site and recommend it to all people who love to enjoy life in the countryside.

I find it despicable how people (such as this Aurélie) criticise. My parents and I have gone here every summer for 18 years, and I can tell you that it's brilliant. I recommend it to everyone who wants to pass a good time having fun and relaxing. Good luck Isabelle, and keep up the good work, it's very good.

This review (Aurélie, below) seems very exaggerated. We've been coming here for five years, and we have never had any problems. On the contrary, family-friendly atmosphere, peaceful, laughter, very simple campsite, remember it has only 2 stars and that the tariffs are sensible for the region (10km from Royan). For the young teenagers, they all know each other, and have a great deal of liberty on the site, as long as they respect the site, the staff, and the campers. As for the food, we can assure you that it is not inedible fast food; on the contrary it is great in quality, quantity and price. For the pool, it's perfectly standard. What's more, there is a wood adjacent for excursions on foot or bike, or with your dog. As for activities: 2 evenings per week with a DJ, boules competition, children's games, snooker, pin tables, mini-football, television, tennis, table tennis, swings etc. Pleasant contact with the English and Dutch, who also come year after year, and this is surely not for no reason!
