This review (Aurélie, below) seems very exaggerated. We’ve been coming here for five years, and we have never had any problems. On the contrary, family-friendly atmosphere, peaceful, laughter, very simple campsite, remember it has only 2 stars and that the tariffs are sensible for the region (10km from Royan). For the young teenagers, they all know each other, and have a great deal of liberty on the site, as long as they respect the site, the staff, and the campers. As for the food, we can assure you that it is not inedible fast food; on the contrary it is great in quality, quantity and price. For the pool, it’s perfectly standard. What’s more, there is a wood adjacent for excursions on foot or bike, or with your dog. As for activities: 2 evenings per week with a DJ, boules competition, children’s games, snooker, pin tables, mini-football, television, tennis, table tennis, swings etc. Pleasant contact with the English and Dutch, who also come year after year, and this is surely not for no reason!

Remember that people are always more prepared to write and complain than they are to praise good service.
over three quarters of people who voted thought this review was pessimistic

Dreadful campsite (domestic scene between the management couple) having nothing in common with the brochure received. Small campsite, very poorly equipped. Muddy pitches. Tiny swimming pool with paddling pool surrounded by rusty wire netting. Dreadful atmosphere. Virtually no entertainment. Fast food inedible. Staff totally lunatic.

I am very disappointed; I don’t recommend it to anyone.

If there's one thing I regret, it's not having called for a health inspection.

Bibiche, we totally agree to your comment! We have visited this camp site 6 times (!) and are going again this year!

Always a lot fun and good laughs with a lot of very nice French, British and Dutch people!

We are a family with three children (teenagers and a 9 year old) and we have all had a very good time, always. Teenagers are happy to see each other again after another year has passed. And the same for us parents!

It is a 2 star campsite, so things are as you can expect.

We love this site and recommend it to all people who love to enjoy life in the countryside.

I find it despicable how people (such as this Aurélie) criticise. My parents and I have gone here every summer for 18 years, and I can tell you that it’s brilliant. I recommend it to everyone who wants to pass a good time having fun and relaxing. Good luck Isabelle, and keep up the good work, it’s very good.

I am truly sorry, but I do not share the opinion of Aurélie one little bit. I have stayed at the campsite La Ferme de Chez Filleux for two years now, and I have absolutely no complaints about the place. The staff is pleasant, always ready to help, and trying to make you happy. As for the food, during our three weeks of holidays last year, we took on average one meal out of two every day, and we have no complaint. I feel very happy at Chez Filleux, and I think it’s a place for good living. The best way to find out is to join us.

Hello.

I feel sorry for the malcontents, but I spent a fortnight here with my family, including children.

Change nothing, it’s brilliant. For the others, go to club med.

I’ve been twice to the Chez Filleux campsite, the first time in July 2001 (a fortnight with my 2 children and husband) and last year (a fortnight in July 2006). We had superb holidays, with the sun to greet us. My children made so many friends. My husband relaxed. The welcome is very friendly. Isabelle is always available for campers, and François’ chips are excellent, especially with mussels. My son and daughter have a single wish, and that’s to go back again. And we too, so we have chosen to return in 2007. It’s a very welcoming campsite, very family-friendly, where our children have a great deal of freedom, and the region is lovely.

I have just returned from my holidays, and I really regret having stumbled upon this campsite. I agree with Aurélie.

I was taken in by the publicity of the campsite, which advertised swimming pool, crazy golf, tennis, fishing lake, and when I got there I found a pool with cloudy water, a perimeter made dangerous by slabs that wobbled, unusable crazy golf invaded by weeds, tennis court with cracks across it (for which we had to pay an extra €2 per hour), and as for the lake, it’s a spring with no bank and no fishermen.

In summary, a big disappointment and disillusionment which partly spoiled our fortnight’s holiday.

Dear campers,

It’s now several years that I have been visiting for a few days, now and then, the campsite of Chez Filleux, in July and/or August, and I am always very happy with the welcome I get.

Thank you Isabelle for giving us a bit of fresh air in the hot Charentais days.

More and more mobile homes, very well equipped, with little shady patios for relaxing, not to forget the little barbeques.

I would not want to omit the good humour and good cooking of Anne-Marie and François.

Until next year,

David..... And I’ll bring my friends!

We are happy to return to this region that is always sunny, for us from Lorraine. Two years on the trot at Chez Filleux; two years of joy, tranquillity, and a lovely pool. We were welcomed by Isabelle: peaceful, no fuss: that suits us. If there is any problem, she rushes to fix it! Fruit and vegetables from the garden of François and his wife, what pleasure! If I were to start talking about the meals, well there wouldn’t be space for us in 2007, but what the hell: I have never eaten such good chips, even in Belgium (sorry to my Belgian friends) and the dishes are of great home-cooked quality, even for us gourmets, at very reasonable prices.

I spent a very pleasant week with Isabelle. Nothing wrong with the welcome or the cleanliness, and the atmosphere is very friendly.

François the cook is ok. There is no doubt that when you cause bloody chaos and get kicked out, you can be somewhat bitter, can’t you Aurélie?

Hi to all the team, and see you soon maybe.

J Louis

p.s. to Marie: I would advise you to change your glasses, when it comes to paving slabs that wobble. As for the cloudy water, that only lasted one day - the fault of people that bathe in shorts (men) and those who use sun tan lotion before bathing (often women).

Once again we return from our holidays, and once again we are completely satisfied with our stay at Chez Filleux. As always, the welcome is warm and friendly. Despite more gloomy weather this August, there is always something to keep you busy. Something for all tastes. But above all we love his campsite, and it’s with immense pleasure that we will return.

I am owner of several mobile homes in Isabelle’s campsite, and I am very satisfied with my choice. My mobile homes have been hired out all summer, and my visitors have all told me that they had super holidays.

Nothing but good things to say about this campsite. We go very regularly, and the children are happy, because, in general, they find friends who also return. There are also friendships amongst the parents.

What’s more, the campsite is not a holiday factory, the little ones can roam the site roads in safety.

The malcontents should go to the factory sites at the seaside, they’ll have a choice of 5-star sites, and they’ll be in paradise. But the stars, you know what they mean?

In conclusion, us, we like going to Chez Filleux, while you, the malcontents, can go to Club Med or to the expensive campsites!

Henri.

Contrary to what some people say, I find that they are mistaken on certain points. For me, it’s my first year, and I find that this campsite is brilliant for peaceful holidays. Thanks to the owner of the mobile home, we have discovered the camping life.

The staff is very pleasant, especially Isabelle, who is always there to help. I think that next year, we will be back, as the children were very happy, as they made many friends, and they were disappointed when we left.

Until next year at la Ferme de Chez Filleux

Isabelle

This year again we have spent excellent holidays at Chez Filleux. No problems with the welcome, Isabelle is always the same, always a kind word, even if she is busy. We specially love this place, where we can really relax to 100%, without fear of being disturbed by noise. We encounter the same people year after year - that’s significant isn’t it? For us, this is the fourth year, and we do not weary of the place. Thank you to all of the team.

If we have chosen to invest in this campsite, it’s simply because it is friendly to all, especially families. Our children find friends there and are never bored. So stop paying attention to star ratings and spending your money at campsites on the beach, where I’m not sure you’ll find the same kindness.
