Well positioned quiet site approx. 500m walk (downhill) to a superb sandy beach in the bay of Douarnenez. Very friendly staff, nice pitches, although some very shady. Just one or two small tour operators offering mobile homes, but not very noticeable. Clientele is 50/50 French/others. Pool very well maintained and supervised, although it gets very busy. The site takeaway is popular. The local area is very scenic, much like Cornwall, albeit without the traffic and a few degrees warmer. Plenty of scope for days out - Douarnenez, Locronan, Crozan peninsular, Pointe de Raz and Quimper.

Remember that people are always more prepared to write and complain than they are to praise good service.

Having been to Camping International de Kervel every year for the last 6 years, both in mobile homes and using our own tent, we were very disappointed when we visited again this year. The campsite has changed ownership since last year and it was immediately apparent that customer satisfaction has given way in order to maximise revenue generation. For example there are now mobile homes on the football pitch and a lot of the existing pitches have been altered in order to squeeze in more units. The worst aspect of the changes appears to be the noise and general un-family friendly orientation of the site. One night there was a brawl between two large all male groups, French and Dutch, which led to the police being needed and the pool being closed the following day in order that the decking furniture, bottles and broken glass could be removed. Even so a neighbouring camper's daughter required hospital treatment to a severe cut on her foot when not all of the glass was cleared from the splash pool at the bottom of the slide. Essentially this was a fantastic site that has lost its way; the facilities can no longer cope with the ever increasing number of campers - the pool was over crowded, the snack bar had huge delays and the sanitary block needed more regular cleaning - all things that used to make this site stand out as a great place for a family holiday. A year ago I would have whole heartedly endorsed the Sopp Family view of Kervel, however, in order to visit this beautiful part of Brittany we shall now have to find an alternative campsite.
