La Grenouillère: our first camping holiday with our children (2.5 and 1.5 years). This campsite really has an unbelievable atmosphere. It gave us the desire to start camping again. The playgrounds are really safe, the staff is pleasant. Truly to be recommended.

This is a beautifully kept campsite only 2 and a half hours from Paris. It is half way between Blois and Chambord. The campsite itself is situated in the grounds of a small Chateau with a moat surrounding it and is extremely picturesque. The pitches are well spaced out and are grassy and the toilet blocks were extremely clean!! The pool complex was ideal. It included 2 outdoor pools, one which had water slides and a covered pool in case of rain. This campsite was ideal for children ( of which I have 7) The pool area was small enough that you could keep your eye on them, but big enough so as not to appear crowded. The site also had a few play areas for the children. The largest one being near the restaurant which meant that you could go out for a meal and keep an eye on your children playing at the same time...ideal. My children enjoyed fishing for the carp that are in the moat. There were tennis and squash courts on the site that you could rent for 8 euros an hour. There was also a small gym. The bar was quite small but very atmospheric. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. There is the most lovely courtyard located at the rear of the bar where you could enjoy a Pastis or 3! The campsite also offered a kids club free of charge which ran from 9.00am-12.00, 2.00pm 4.00pm and then again at night from 7.00pm until 9.00pm.The campsite also offered canoeing on the Loire for 10 euros which included the hire of the canoe and life jacket and transportation to and from the campsite. All activities on this site seemed very well organised. This site would be an ideal location if you wanted to visit some of the chateaux of the area. Tours was only 1 and a half hours away and we took our children to the zoo which was fantastic. The nearest small town to us was Mer, which was nice. It was 5 mins by car. You could catch the train here to Blois and Tours. Blois itself is a beautiful town which a lovely chateau and good shopping. We will be returning!
