Author: Yan Last Visit: August 2006

Forest View is a small, quiet, rather neglected site that has changed little in the 20 years since my last visit. The site houses about 40 chalets with long-term residents plus a number of hard-standing touring pitches with electric hook-ups and space for 10 or so tents. Facilities are very basic - toilet block with cracked floor and flaking paint, two toilets for each sex, cold water washbasins and a coin operated shower. The WCs and shower were reasonably clean during our visit, but then I didn’t see another soul in them all weekend. The site’s big redeeming feature is the view from the touring field, which sits on top of a hill looking down into a tree-lined valley. I spent a very pleasant afternoon, sat at the door of my tent, simply taking in the vista. The site itself is attached to the Forest View Inn, which serves food and reasonable beer and is popular with the chalet residents. A branch line runs along the bottom of the valley but trains stop at 23:00 and don’t shatter the peace too often. There seemed to be a huge number of dogs on-site, some adequately controlled, some not, all exercised in the valley below the camping field. A fellow camper also told me that the site gets very busy during the summer music festivals that take place in nearby Delamere Forest, which is within easy walking distance.
