Elm Cottage is a small caravan site with a huge camping field. The camping area, which is separate from the touring caravan field, is split into a touring area and a "rally" field. I'm not sure what constitutes a rally, our party of five tents didn't as we were allocated pitches in the main field. Pitches are unmarked so we were invited to group our party's tents in a circle. There is also a "rally barn" next to the reception. I'm not sure what happens in the barn but as we arrived some huge speakers were being removed, so I assumed it was a disco or something similar. There is a pub within walking distance but going anywhere else requires a car journey. There is no kids play area on site but there is ample room for children to devise their own entertainment. The loos, showers and dish washing facilities are of a very high standard. The best shower is the one by the dish washing area, the others are a little cramped. Part of the site backs onto the A54, which is busy 24 hours-a-day, so it can be a bit noisy. Other than that it's very civilised with little night-time noise (and non from the afore mentioned barn). The owner is a bit of a pedant, park your car in the wrong car park or (heaven forbid) wash your dishes in the laundry sink, you will stand a good chance of getting a telling-off if caught in the act. But then this is a very well-organised site, and attention to detail is what makes it so successful. The owlry attached to the site is understated and houses several species of (I assume) captive-bred owls. To view these magnificent creatures is worth the very reasonable camping fees alone.
