Very large family campsite beside the Route Nationale 4. Easily accessible, even without a GPS! (There's an advertisement alongside the road)
We spent three days here on the long Mayday weekend, at the superb lush setting that is the campsite "Le Relais". I should point out that the sun joined us, which only made the stay better!
A spot more than pleasant, because of the large pitches (one of my main concerns!) Hearing the noise of one's neighbours talking through the night is not that pleasant. But being able to put the picnic table in front of the awning, and having the car nearby, isn't that ideal?
Despite not being pensioners, nor unemployed, nor teachers, we go on holiday 3-4 times a year with our caravan, and most of it in Belgium, after all, why travel thousands of miles when one lives in a land as fine as ours! Clearly, because the weather is not always friendly! So, in the 3-4 outings each year in all of our (small) country, of all the sites where we have spent a few days, I can attest that this is the only one that has really pleased me.
Imagine then, a site of about 25 acres, where about 30% is occupied by static caravans, without being in any way hovels which give the impression of arriving in a shanty town, as is the case in very many campsites, and without the high fences and barbed wire that make you think of a refugee camp! What's more, the static vans are up at the top of the site.
The toilet block is quite new, and well arranged, and also very clean, despite the attempts of the kids on site during our stay! The showers are free. Small bonus, there is a washing machine and dryer. Very useful when one has young children who love to roll on the grass!
And the activities are not lacking either! There is a pre-arranged programme for every day from 8am to 11pm! A (small) group of leaders lead the activities perfectly, and they're generally free, unless they involve something outside the site. This gives us young parents a chance to relax!
I spoke above about a large campsite, and for me, lover of nature, I really found joy in the large stretches of grass around the campsite, the number of trees and flowers on the pitches, a wood, and enormous lake where fishing is free! Being a modest fisherman, even I managed to catch 8 carp and perch in a half-day! It seems also that in summer, people swim in the lake!
I almost forgot to mention the (real) basketball court, tennis courts, pétanque, table tennis and volleyball! As for football, there are no goalposts, but there's no lackof space. There is also a treetop course. That really looked good, but unfortunately we didn't try it.
There's also an Indian village! Several tepees, to the delight of the children! Campfires were organised inside the tepees. Imagine yourselves comfortably seated inside a tent of 6-7m height and 10m diameter, the heat of the fire rising in line with the amount of alcohol consumed during the evening! Belly full of delicious kebabs, sausages and bacon from the barbecue organised a few hours earlier, and to top it all, a guitarist playing beautifully!
As for the managers, who also own the site, they are very friendly and above all very helpful, without being overbearing. All the staff is in fact part of the family. It's a pleasure to see this, even though they must have enormous courage to do what they do. It must be a very heavy workload! They're there well above the 38h/week for a "normal" worker! I can't imagine how much work this campsite involves. But in any case, the standard is impeccable.
As for the price, it is very reasonable, a caravan and awning, car, two adults, three children from 3 to 12 years, with a small dog, only €25 per day! Only about half the price of a pitch on the North Sea coast.
What more can I say, but to recommend this site to you.
Oh yes, the town and the big shops are just 10km away.
I'll finish by saying that generally, or at least up until now, we have never returned to a campsite we have previously used, not because we were not satisfied, but because we wanted to try out as many places as possible. But in this case, we have already booked a pitch for 21 July.
Here's hoping that the weather will be like this weekend, simply excellent!
I think I've said it all now.
Have a good stay, and thanks to the webmaster for providing this opportunity to read different points of view before going!
