I have a few problems with the manager of Les Chênes Verts, and I would like to inform the maximum number of people, so they too do not get caught.
About ten days ago, I was looking for a campsite for my summer holidays in the Ardèche. My choice ended up on this campsite. I phoned for some information. A lady told me that I would need to send a cheque for the deposit, plus the booking fee, total €96. So far, no problem, and I sent the cheque, along with the hire contract for a pitch.
Two days later, I received a letter asking that I send the entirety of the cost of the holiday. I didn't understand why they wanted the whole lot, when two days earlier there had been no mention of it.
So I called them again, and a man answered. I asked him for an explanation for the new request. He got cross, and started to become menacing. I tried at first to tell him it was not worth getting cross over, and that I didn't understand his reaction. But to no avail. I ended up getting cross myself. The conversation got worse. So I told him that as a result of his attitude on the phone, there was no way I was going to spend my holidays at his campsite, et that I would like him to return my €96. He refused, and hung up on me.
Since then, I have sent a letter asking him to refund the sum paid, which is within my rights as the date limit had not passed.
To date, I have received nothing from him, and I therefore intend to file a formal complaint.
But above all, I would like to warn future holidaymakers who would like to visit the magnificent Ardèche, not to choose this campsite, where the welcome is clearly not their strong point.
