We spent a fortnight at the Bois Simonet campsite in August 2009. I highly recommend this campsite to families with young children. At 11pm, everything stops and there’s no more noise, so it may not suit teenagers.
There is a pool and a paddling pool, which is ideal for the little ones. A small grocery, bread, and pizzas.
As for the river, it is possible to get there on foot, but it’s a bit far for the children, so we took the car, so as to be able to go to other places as well. There wasn’t much water, due to the drought in 2009.
We had hired a chalet, very well equipped. We were placed at the top of a small slope. One small point, it’s not worth taking bikes for the children, it’s not an ideal area for that.
Nearby, you can visit the town of Joyeuse, its markets, the old town, a Carrefour supermarket, pharmacy, doctors etc.
We also visited the superb caves at la Cocalière (only 30 minutes by car).
The owners are very friendly, and they take great trouble to ensure the well-being of their holidaymakers (with the help of Mica, their Labrador, the children’s friend!)
Just one thing disappointed us: the restaurant, where the service was slow, and the food only average. On the other hand, the takeaway pizzas were very good.
However, we would be happy to return this year, expect that we want to visit other parts of France, so maybe another time.
