  • We visited L'Hippocampe in August 2008. The site is reasonably large and well managed. There is a very basic shop but there are local supermarkets in Digne Les Bains nearby. There are 2 good pools, helpful staff, evening entertainment in an impressive tent structure and modern and spacious toilet facilities (very clean). The site is largely patronised by the French and Dutch (so don't go expecting to meet lots of English families). Beautiful mountainous scenery with plenty of local activities. If you have older children, try out the white water rafting - you'll be glad that you did it! Take mosquito repellent in August - we were somewhat plagued by them! This is a great site, thoroughly recommended.

Village Camping La Pergola

  • We visited La Pergola for two weeks in the summer of 2006. The site is situated overlooking the lake and it has a super location. Plenty of watersports for the enthusiast: pedaloes, canoes, boats etc. The restaurant overlooks the lake and the food was reasonable. Pitches are a reasonable size, surrounded by an evergreen hedge. Each pitch has its own electric hook up and water. The site is terraced and some of the pitches towards the bottom of the site (near the lake) weren't particularly level and we needed levelling blocks as well as the motor mover to manoeuvre the van into the pitch. Toilet blocks are fine: clean and well maintained with plenty of hot water. The site animation team was excellent - a good range of activities for all the family (cycling, walking, archery, salsa, aerobics, evening shows). Be warned about the weather - this region of France is hilly and rivers/lakes are plentiful! We did experience quite a lot of rain (that second ground sheet did come in useful after all) but it didn't detract from the holiday.

  • We stayed for 10 days at Camping La Pergola in July and August 2006 and despite the terrible weather, found the campsite to be excellent. The surroundings are stunning - the site overlooks a lake and low hills. The lake caters for pedaloes, canoes, boats as well as being warm enough to swim in. The pool complex is reasonably large if a bit cold in the pool. The entertainment team were very enthusiastic performing nightly, organising discos. The shop was reasonably well stocked but we did go out to local supermarkets, which were a bit of a drive. The site is steeply terraced and even with a motor mover, it required all concentration and hands on deck to manoeuvre our caravan onto the pitch. The pitches near the back are quite small, so if you have a big unit, ask for the pitches at the top of the site. This site is excellent if you want an active, walking, cycling type holiday but good if you just want to laze around. It really felt as though we were off the beaten tourist track. The site has a very cosmopolitan feel to it - there were some British families but if you are looking to mix with campers of all nationalities, this is the place for you.
